What do you think of Amalia as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

Or Amelle.

Sorry for the multiple threads today!

Amalia is lovely, unusual and works in a variety of languages. Not keen on Amelle...

Jojay · 26/09/2010 22:07

Don't like it. She'd spend her life saying
'no, it's not Amelia, it's.....

rachxx · 26/09/2010 22:08

And are we sayin it am-a-leah or A-mar-leah

Surely people would see the difference? Amelie doesnt get confused with Amelia

Would that be pronounces Am-AR-lia or A-MAY-lia or Am Al ia. I don't think yukola to any of them but none of them really grab me.

SirBoobAlot · 26/09/2010 22:12

Looks made up to me.

Clary · 26/09/2010 22:13

I'm sorry I think people will think you said Amelia which is btw very very popular round by me.

Along with Emily and Emilia and Ellie.

Sorry but I do think Amelie gets confused with Ameila.

All the Emilias I know have mums who say "this is Em-ee-lia" to make the point.

rachxx · 26/09/2010 22:15

Oh dear. Another off the list then!!!

I have officially given up now!

Amalia - sounds like a tropical disease.

Amelle - sounds like a Feminie Hygeine Product.

cuppatino · 26/09/2010 22:16

Yes, it's lovely-middle eastern isn't it?

rachxx · 26/09/2010 22:16

I like if. I have Romanian friend, pronounced am-ar-lia. It is sinijar to other names which ate fairly common at the mo (already mentioned on this thread) but not so similar that the people would get them mixed up, imo.

splashy · 26/09/2010 22:24

amalia will just make people think it's amelia with a typo, very annoying i think!
