The names we both like are...

Charles
Jared
Oliver
Theo

We will probably choose one of these as a first name and one as a middle name. Please help us make our choice :)

I really like both Oliver and Theo, the others are good choices too

Don't like Charles much, the others are all nice :). Would help to know what your surname is like (English? How many syllables? First letter) to make combinations.

Also, just Theo, or Theodore?

Greenwing · 24/09/2010 23:07

Lovely names - tough choice.I had Jared on my shortlist too some years ago.
Unusually wide variety - Charles and Oliver are very traditional whilst Jared is far more unusual and a lot of people will not know how to spell it.
Big contrast there - do you want him to be one of many or one of a crowd?
I love the name Theo but it is really short for Theodore which means 'gift of God'. Theo is just the Greek word for God and it seems a bit strange to call one's son 'God'!

Oliver or Charles imo dont care for the other 2

Holidaydreams · 24/09/2010 23:35

Skyrg - Our surname begins with T and has 2 syllables.
Greenwing - Grin good point about Theo! It would have to be Theodore on the birth certificate.
We do seem to have an eclectic taste and I am really torn between him being one of many or one of a crowd! Jared, I love and i'm trying to decide how much of a burden it could be for him to have to explain the spelling and pronunciation.

Thanks for the replies :) Please keep them coming

Jared a bit too American for my taste.

Oliver - very popular but nice

Theo - still reasonably popular

Charles - quite like it but not if shortened to Charlie.

cece · 24/09/2010 23:40

Is Charlie a shortening of Charles?!

Skyrg · 24/09/2010 23:47

Just wrote a long post and my internet failed! Grumble..
Oliver as a middle name would give you a word in the initials - Jot, Tot or Cot.
Otherwise I like the combinations.
Theodore Charles is my favourite, the names go well together and I like the 2 - 1 - 2 syllable combination.

Good luck - sounds like you've made some nice choices.

Holidaydreams · 02/10/2010 20:03

Thank you Skyrg. I haven't had internet access all week!
We're nearly there with our choice and will probably have to include Jared in there as it is growing on me more and more as an uncommon strong name. It is more commonly used in America at the moment but it seems that a lot of biblical names start off being more popular in the states.
Thanks for the in-put :)

Theo is the nicest I think.

Love Jared - lovely classic name that isn't as overused as the others.
