We've really struggled to come up with a name we both like for DS2, due in 3 weeks. I want something arty, romantic, beautiful...DH wants him to not get beaten up at school Grin

DS1 is Joseph (Joe) which we both love. The surname is very English, long and sounds a bit posh (which we're not).

The following are all contenders, can't seem to narrow it down any further:

Patrick
Freddie (Frederick)
Seamus
Hamish
Gabriel
Vincent

Thanks!

Patrick
Freddie (Frederick)
Seamus
Hamish
Gabriel
Vincent

I'd trake out Vincent (awful) and Hamish (just NO). Freddie is meh. Loads of them around.

I'd narrow it down to Patrick, Seamus or Gabriel. Lovely names in their own right, with decent nicknames (Paddy/Seamie/Gabe).

neolara · 21/09/2010 11:33

I like all of the except Vincent, which I think is particularly horrible (sorry).

hairymelons · 21/09/2010 15:47

S'alright neolara, that's why I'm asking.

Thereisalight, I don't think I am you but am only certain because I have no DDs! I agree girls would be much easier to name though, I have a long list of lovely girls names I'd be happy to use.

I agree Freddie is a bit over used nowadays which is a shame because it's lovely.

I think it's going to be either Patrick or Seamus. I'm a sucker for family ties.

Ooh, I LOVE Seamus and Shey/Shay/Che(?) is a very cool nn.

Patrick also a good sturdy name and Paddy is a classic nn.

I think those two are my faves, particularly with your family/Irish connections.

Vince is a gangster name Smile

foreverastudent · 22/09/2010 10:23

Joseph and Gabriel together is very biblical but it's my favourite from your list.

Patrick- only if you're Irish
Freddie (Frederick)- Jade Goody's son
Seamus-too quirky
Hamish- only if you're Scottish
Vincent- I think of 'bad boys' called Vinnie

mathanxiety · 22/09/2010 17:25

I would keep Patrick, Seamus and Hamish. Especially Patrick Wink

Kathleen123 · 23/09/2010 12:20

Patrick - like
Freddie (Frederick) - like
Seamus - you have to be Irish
Hamish - need to be Scottish
Gabriel - poncey
Vincent - like

Vincent, Paddy and Freddie are my faves.

FloraFinching · 23/09/2010 12:23

Patrick and Gabriel are lovely
Vincent is too, but could you stomach the inevitable Vinnie or Vince? Save it for a middle name maybe.
Not bothered about the rest.

hairymelons · 23/09/2010 13:53

Mathanxiety, the knowing Wink has me intrigued, do we know each other in RL?

Patrick still seems to be the least disliked then. My dad will be pleased!

Smelly, is 'sturdy' a good thing or is that a euphemism for 'yawn'?

Out of your list I much prefer Freddie (Frederick) and Vincent. The ohters aren't English enough maybe for an English surname or a bit 'girly' for me.

One thing though - Freddie is pretty popular around these parts... not sure if that would bother you at all.

I always think names that go with Joseph might be more like

Thomas
Daniel
Gregory
James (Jimmy)
Jonathan (Jonny)

smellywashingmachine · 23/09/2010 14:11

hehe, no NOT yawn!

But I suppose I mean, traditional and not-poncey-in-the-slightest, so if not-poncey-in-the-slightest is a key criteria, Patrick is a good choice.

It goes well with Joe too. Look:

"Are Joseph and Patrick coming to play?"

"Ooh look there's Joe and Paddy"

"That's enough cake now Pat and Joe!"

etc etc

hairymelons · 23/09/2010 15:14

Yes it does go well! Feels a bit wierdy giving him being called the same as my dad though. Is that wierdy?

I like Seamus best out of your list. Freddie is cute but I think with a name like Seamus he will be taken more seriously. Nice list though!

pilates · 23/09/2010 17:23

Def Freddy

pilates · 23/09/2010 17:23

sorry Freddie

smellywashingmachine · 24/09/2010 09:53

Not weirdy at all Hairy. My bro has exact same name (middle too) as my dad. And we're not weirdy (I think). Smile

hairymelons · 25/09/2010 13:53

Ok cool.

I think we've nearly decided. Thanks everyone :)
