Kit on its own for a boy because I hate Christopher?

I love the name Kit for a boy but am struggling with the fact that it's not a 'proper' name.. I keep reading that you should give chidlren 'proper' names, not a nickname!

Kit is usually short for Christopher or Christian - both of which do nothing for me at all...In fact I hate them both!

Can I get away with it?

Full name would be Kit William Duncan and no, can't use either William or Duncan as first name...

Help.

I think that Kit is a great nn but not good in it's own right, I'm not keen on diminutives as given names and Kit to me is just too short with no options (I like names with options).

But it is an increasingly comment trend so I am sure if that's what you want it won't raise too many eyebrows. I know a little boy called Kip.

I'd say go for Kit on its own - imo Christopher is awful!

Kit was on our boy's names list for our second child, but she was a girl, so we called her Kitty. That's all. Not Katherine.

What's wrong with having an shortened name as a full name?

I think Kit is alright, just don't use Kitty as a nickname .

how about Christy? Lovely Irish name and you could still use Kit

I always think of Kit Williams and the hours my parents spent trying to crack the code of his books to discover the treasure of the golden hare...... (only people of a certain age will remeber this....)

I have a friend called Kit, it is his first name. I like it.
