We can't decide on the name for DD

Our short list consists of:
Sofia
Marie-Helene
Helena
Irena ( after my aunt who was the first to welcome my DH)
Katrina / Katrine
Kristine

My favourite for first name is Sofia, but it is the name of my goddaughter born last year. (with slightly different spelling).
Is it a major faux pas to use it? Or is it ok - imitation is the best form of flattery after all. Or is it just a v popular name at the moment?

Our main criteria apart from liking it is that it should work in English, French and Polish.

Oh and DH is threatening Liberata Argentina. He likes fooling around.

I personally would want something different just so I felt like it was my own name iykwim.

Sophia is quite popular at the minute, I know 3 woman due this year all having Sophia.

Will the children see each other regularly? If so it might get a bit confusing with 2 Sophia's.

i would check with parents of your godchild first. they might not mind. if like us they especially chose a name that wasn't used by anyone they knew they might be disappointed. people here will argue that no-one owns a name, but i still think its important to be considerate to a friend - and they can't change sofia's name now to accommodate your choice.
