I Love Oliver & William, may be popular but not 'common'!
Sorry but I don't like the other's, not a fan of more unusual names as they seem to be the ones that end up sounding more common!

Beatrix or Bea is lovely for a girl,I like Daisy too :)

Amaro- I'm not personally mad keen on this as I can't see it rolling off the tongue.
Oliver (too common?) smart and classic, not common.
William (too common?) See Oliver.
Orson- not the easiest name to pull off.
Orlando- hmm, not sure- depends on your surname.
Amory- sounds like Balamory.

Girl names:
Lydia- lovely and classic
Rosamond- unusual these days- is it normally spelt Rosamund? I prefer it with a U.
Zara- cool name that carries well into adulthood.
Adalia- Not that keen.
Elizabeth- classic and timeless.
Daisy- A little too cutsey for me, but many people love it.

Beatrix- Very nice and a good way to spell it.

allinaspin · 08/09/2010 13:07

Thanks very much for the views.

Sorry, by 'common' I meant 'popular' or 'frequently used', not 'common' in a negative way.

Orlando and Beatrix are beautiful names

lowrib · 08/09/2010 13:21

Be aware that quite a lot of mumsnet poster (but not all be any means!) are very conservative when it comes to baby names. So be prepared for the majority to go for Oliver and William, probably.

Personally I prefer the more unusual names, and yes I think Oliver and William are too common (as in popular).

These are my favourites from your list, in order of preference:

Orlando
Amaro
Orson

Zara
Adalia
Elizabeth - quite popular, but loads of nicknames to choose from
Rosamond

This is a great website - not particularly pretty, but lots of info www.babynamespedia.com/

flopsy1974 · 08/09/2010 13:30

I like William and Elizabeth. They may be quite popular but are classic and timeless names.
Not keen on the others.

upahill · 08/09/2010 13:32

I really dislike all of the boys names.

I like Zara on the girls list.

BuntyPenfold · 08/09/2010 13:32

Not keen on Amorous or Arson tbh

frankenfanny · 08/09/2010 14:21

My favourites are Orlando and William (Will) and Zara and Elizabeth (any number of nice shortened versions).

Marquez · 08/09/2010 14:33

Favourite boys- Oliver and William. Like all
of your girls names except for Adalia.

My suggestion- William Oliver
and Elizabeth Daisy/Beatrix Elizabeth

evamummy · 08/09/2010 14:35

Boy names:
Amaro - not sure
Oliver - yes, too popular for me.
William - NO - he WILL get called Willy
Orson - very cool, love.
Orlando - like
Amory - not sure

Girl names:
Lydia - nice
Rosamond - not sure
Zara - like
Adalia - very nice
Elizabeth - nice
Daisy - a bit too cutesy
Beatrix - lovely.

ozmetric · 08/09/2010 15:15

I like William, and Oliver is OK. These are popular but they are classics rather than fads.

I also like Orson and Orlando.

I like Lydia, Zara, Adalia and Daisy. Prefer Beatrice to Beatrix.

DandyDan · 08/09/2010 15:38

Of those,

William - classic and can be shortened to Will

Elizabeth - again, a very classic and classy name, with lots of possible diminutives.

MrsJohnDeere · 08/09/2010 15:44

Love William (and the ones I know haven't been shortened to Willy - typically Will, Wills, or Wilf). Like Oliver but very common round here.
Not keen on the others.

On the girls' list love Lydia and Elizabeth. Prefer Beatrice to Beatrix, don't kn ow why though.

mamasunshine · 08/09/2010 15:50

Love William, know lots and never heard any of them called Willy?!! Usually shortened to Will/Wills/Wilf. Oliver nice too.

I really like Adalia, and also prefer Beatrice than Beatrix.

stressedout29 · 08/09/2010 15:53

Oliver and William are both nice

Lydia Zara Daisy

Thanks guys for all the feedback. Much appreciated. Think we're getting there... (although I change my mind on which boy name I prefer about twice a week at the moment).
