Welsh girls names?

My DP is Welsh and DD has a lovely Welsh middle name.

We don't know what we're having this time around (I am 22 wks pg) - we've sorted out the boys name, but we're having real trouble finding another Welsh girl's name that we like. It's all Blodwen and Myfanwy and so many of them you'd have to be incredibly mean to inflict on a tiny baby (no offence to any Blodwens here but come on!)

Can anyone inspire me with nice Welsh girls names?

Dilys is a very fine name .

As are all the others mentioned, including Heulwen (my godmother is called Heulwen, and she's lovely, and it means sunshine).

Loving these Wesh names.

I know a Nesta. She was going to be Nest but her mum was worried she would be teased for that in school.

cyteen · 03/09/2010 22:29

Eluned

frankenfanny · 03/09/2010 22:31

Catrin, Eleri, Seren and Heulwen are my favourites. Eirlys would be a nice meaning for a winter baby.

poorbuthappy · 03/09/2010 22:33

My nan was Eluned!

(sorry pointless post but I think it is the first time I've seen that name posted on here! Grin)

MissHenty · 09/10/2019 22:16

Lowri?

MikeUniformMike · 10/10/2019 12:21

Not welsh:
Ariana (Silver) - not welsh
Daere (Oak tree)
Eres (Beautiful)
Guinevere (white wave)
Isolde (fair lady)
Meredith (protector of the sea) (anglicised boy's name)
Teagan (beautiful, attractive)

MikeUniformMike · 10/10/2019 12:22

Misspelt:
Bronwyn
Bethen

MikeUniformMike · 10/10/2019 12:23

Not Welsh:
Nell
Caitlin

Zanzan1 · 10/10/2019 12:26

MikeuniformMike you make me giggle as well as being very informative.

I like Ceinwen but know it wouldn't be pronounced right

MikeUniformMike · 10/10/2019 12:27

Misspelt:
Rhinannon

Imogen isn't welsh (if it was it would be pronounced Im-OGG-en)

Awful:
Gwenneth. It's Gwyneth.

Gwenan is the usual spelling.

Gwenllian isn't pronounced Gwen-hlee-an. The ll is not hl.

MikeUniformMike · 10/10/2019 12:38

Makesmilingyourbesthobby - most of those are not Welsh.

Can you tell I should be doing something else?

Names with J, Q, V, X, or Z are not likely to be Welsh.
Exceptions I can think of are Jac and Vaughan. Vaughan is an anglicised form of Fychan.

Brin is spelt Bryn and is a boy's name.
Sianed is Sioned.

If you look at an online site listing Welsh names some of them will be not welsh and some of them not names.

MikeUniformMike · 10/10/2019 12:42

Nest is nice. Nearest approximate pronunciation is Nayst, but Nest is acceptable. Annest is a variation. Both forms of Agnes.

Eluned crops up on many Welsh name threads. Pron. El-IN-ed, usually shortened to Lyn.
