Tarrow, Eben and Selva

Now Eben and Selva I rather like, but Tarrow is a bit more difficult to love (and I'm giving full credit here on the assumption it is not spelt Tarot!!)

Apologies if this is a mumsnetter btw, your kids were very gorgeous Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
rachel234 · 26/08/2010 17:22

Lovely, haven't heard of them before. I wonder what culture/background they're from?

SpringHeeledJack · 26/08/2010 17:35

Fifty quid says their mum is a mumsnetter and will be along sharpish with her Boden sleeves rolled up Smile

Blu · 26/08/2010 17:40

What are your kids called?

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 26/08/2010 17:42

I have a 42 year old friend whos middle name is Ebon, I think it's rather nice.

sorky · 26/08/2010 17:48

They're gorgeous names :)

sonniboo · 26/08/2010 18:17

Lovely names!

Not quite sure about the need to post someone else's chilren's name on here though Hmm.

migola · 26/08/2010 19:24

DD1's middle name would have been Eben had she been a boy

ramonaquimby · 26/08/2010 19:29

I know a 50ish year old man called Selva. He's South African

deemented · 26/08/2010 19:33

Beautiful names!

ChequeredFlag · 26/08/2010 19:38

I have a Danish friend called Iben, pron Ee-bun, I always liked it.

mollymax · 26/08/2010 22:10

TBH I would not be at all happy to log on here and find my girls names bandied about.
My girls have unusual names.
What is the point of this post?

getstuffed · 27/08/2010 08:32

Judging by the amount of us un-inspired and struggling, perhaps to assist with naming our kids Grin

OnlyWantsOne · 27/08/2010 08:37

... blimey everyone on MN is a bit touchy and judgey atm Hmm

shitforbrains · 27/08/2010 08:40

I don't think everyone is touchy and judgey.

Imagine you came on here to find a thread mocking your children's names.

It's very different so someone asking opinions on a name they might wish to use themselves - they are aware that it might not be universally liked, but you are just mocking someone.

FWIW, I think there is nothing wrong with those names, I thought you were going to say 'tallulah does the hula from hawaii' or something.

ShinyAndNew · 27/08/2010 08:43

I like them. Original but not ott.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 27/08/2010 08:49

Well, they are better than Tarquin.

Surely someone on here has a child named Boden?

pippibluestocking · 27/08/2010 08:53

I wk with someone called Eben - have never given it a second thought

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 27/08/2010 09:26

I met an Eben the other day. It's rather nice and I like the other two names too.
Makes a change from Jack, Emily and Grace (not that there's anything wrong with them, just lots around here).

ValiumSingleton · 27/08/2010 09:43

They are unusual, but they all sound quite simple. I don't dislike them. La Selva is a wild wood in spanish I think.

sonniboo · 27/08/2010 11:18

They certainly make a lovely change from Grace, Jack and the likes. But I still don't see why they need to posted on a public forum (without the parents knowledge).

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 27/08/2010 12:17

Well, I'm not sure either - and I think I might be offended if I found a similar thread and identified my children on it. However, so far, the responses have been positive.

stinkypants · 27/08/2010 12:22

i dont think lionstar was being any worse than some of the comments people put for other people's ideas - it's just the fact that they were real children - but to be fair she did say they were gorgeous so maybe people are being a little harsh.

Menshevik · 27/08/2010 12:26

I know a little Eben too... but his sister has a normal, v popular name.
I quite like Tarrow ans Selva too, though thought Selva would be a girl, not a boy tbh.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 27/08/2010 12:27

Actually - you are right, Lionstar hasn't been unkind in what has been said - some comments are just horrible on MN baby names, but I think it's the potential horror of logging on and finding your kids named on here that is making people twitchy.

sonniboo · 27/08/2010 13:46

What bothers people is that innocent children's names are published on a public worldwide forum. Especially as the names are quite unusual.

And the comment "Tarrow is a bit more difficult to love" isn't that nice, is it?
