First name starting with same letter as surname-yes or no?

Ok so we found out yesterday that bump is definitely a boy (as I expected lol!!) and are still really struggling for names that we both like.

We have a 5 year old DS who is called William George (why oh why did we use George as his middle name cause it would be fab for DS2!)and the one name we both keep coming back to that we both really like is Henry but our surname begins with H as well.

DH thinks it doesn't matter but for some reason it is bothering me that it doesn't sound right-any opinions or am I just being hormonal?

Other names we have picked are:Joseph (which its probably going to be if we don't choose henry),Thomas and Alex.

Our surname begins with H and our dd's name also begins with an H, the only person who thought this odd was dh's nan. Btw love your ds1's name, mine's a William too

Sometimes alliterative names are great....Andre Agassi; Benjamin Britten; Jesse James etc

Other times they just sound...well...micky mouse (or donald duck or Bugs Bunny or Peter Parker) kind of comic book...so do be careful

It depends. Moses Martin (Gwyneth's son) sounds awful! But Jacob Jones sounds good.

I was MM before I got married and DS3 is HH. Can't see the problem as long as it sounds ok.

It's not a crime to use your DC1's middle name as DC2's first. My friend did this when they couldn't think of a name they liked any better and since they rarely use their middle names it's a bit insignificant anyway.

RE: Alliteration. It can be awesome or terrible, depending on the name. If you love Henry then you should go for it. I know a HH and it sounds fine to me.

I am a big fan of alliteration, think it can sound fab.

If your surname is Higgins, then don't do it.

You do realise he's going to be called Horrid Henry H.....? Or is that just a reflection on the circles my DC move in? I would avoid more H's than necessary round here for that reason too - their friends never say an H!!

I quite like a bit of alliteration. Certainly better than rhyming anyway.

DD1 is HH. We started off a bit of a trend. We have friends with another HH and others with an RR, all born within a year of each other!

It would never have bothered me, but DH was dead against same initials so it was easier not to.

Hmmm so not as awful as I expected! Our surname is Hawes and I think Henry Hawes sounds a bit like a fisherman...have no idea why though lol!!

I have suggested that we use George as DS2's name but DS1 is very against it because he says its his name otherwise I would have seriously considered it-there were reasons why we didn't use it as a first name at the time...long story involving "Shooting Stars" and the fact that George Hawes sounded very much like George Dawes (if anyone can remember that!)but I think I was just being overly hormonal lol!!
