If someone is rude regarding your choice of name, do this....

mmediately turn it round and ask what their children are called, or if you already know, then adopt a puzzled expression, and ask why they chose that name. In my experience, they are often shocked and become defensive.

Shuts em right up Grin

i am just about to have 3rd and am sick of people scrutinising my name choices.

good idea.

what it's name?

TrillianAstra · 22/08/2010 20:40

Also: never tell people your chosen name before birth. Really just don't.

MummyLovesSadie · 22/08/2010 21:32

Trillian - so right. I'd NEVER reveal my chosen names to anyone. I just don't want peoples opinions & I'd hate anything they say to change the way I view the name.

Or you could always rise above it and not be as rude as they have been. But easier said than done I'm sure :)

It is very rude to crticise names in person to your friends. It's very different on a site like this when it isn't personal at all.

It is probably best to keep your chosen names secret before birth unless they are very traditional names that no one would think anything of. For example, one of my colleagues just had a baby and when the emailed photos came around along with the name, there was a collective intake of breath, along with people saying "of all the beautiful names there are and she called her baby girl that" !!!! No one liked her choice of name, but mum does and that's all matters I guess. If she's told us before birth, I'm sure we would have put her off it.

That's exactly what I do. If I suggest a name to someone where I hate their chosen names for their children and they hate my chosen name (or dislike it) it almost cheers me up as it makes me think that I've definitely made the right choice!!

I always ask what names they like or have chosen and it often makes me feel a million times better!
