Oh dear, a baby girl had been registered as a boy due to an unusual name. I do think it sounds masculine.

FallingWithStyle · 17/08/2010 22:05

I think it sounds like washing powder.

hellymelly · 17/08/2010 22:05

it also sounds like a poisonous gas (radon)what were they thinking?

mamadoc · 17/08/2010 22:05

Or synthetic fabric
or dangerous radioactive gas..

scottishmummy · 17/08/2010 22:08

dont think they were finking.at all

ArseHolio · 17/08/2010 22:11

Naa incapabel of finking.. I, errrr fink!

Raydon is the ugliest name I have ever heard. It sounds like a treatment for warts.

seaturtle · 17/08/2010 22:39

It's not a nice name for a girl!

mathanxiety · 17/08/2010 23:05

This is yet another example of the Jayden effect.

Newmummanda · 17/08/2010 23:11

I cant believe that it took them a week to spot the mistake!! There isnt that much info on a birth certificate- idiots!

UnrequitedSkink · 17/08/2010 23:13

Radon is a cancer-causing gas. Poor kid.

EightiesChick · 17/08/2010 23:14

That is, I'm sorry to say, the ugliest-sounding name they could have come up with, whether for a boy or a girl. Let's hope they chose a middle name. Any middle name.

usualsuspect · 17/08/2010 23:21

I used to know a girl called Raye back in the day ..I always thought it was kind of a cool name ..

chipmonkey · 17/08/2010 23:24

Hmm,
UK Raydon = boy
US Raydon = girl

gaelicsheep · 17/08/2010 23:27

Not Rae? I quite like Rae. But Raydon? Dear God!

Did they not check when asked? My little girl has a name that many (of the older generation) consider to be a boy's name, although it can quite correctly be either. I checked very carefully. They don't sound very bright...

mathanxiety · 17/08/2010 23:28

They think the only mistake is that the registrar got the gender wrong?

gaelicsheep · 17/08/2010 23:29

I can't say I'm surprised about the pink thing though. I've taken DD out in a very pinkish red top with a frill, trousers with flower detail and pink socks and been told how lovely he is. Hmm

gaelicsheep · 17/08/2010 23:31

...and she's a delicate wee thing - not a big bruiser.

SecretNutellaFix · 17/08/2010 23:33

it's a hideous name. If they had wanted to give her a name to honour the grandfather then Raye is quite pretty. It sounds like they wnated to honour 2 grandfathers Raymond and DOnald and combined the 2 together.

DitaVonCheese · 18/08/2010 09:32

I don't think it was because of the name was it, just a typo from the sound of it. For once I am chortling rather than getting enraged by DM comments - particularly loving "You really are trying to turn the English language into stupidity aren't you?" Grin

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 18/08/2010 09:34

I also thought washing powder. And I now have the jingle from the Calgon ad running through my head.

BikeRunSki · 18/08/2010 09:38

I was thinking washing powder too!

When we went to register DS, the info the registrar had from the hospital had him down as a girl. He has three VERY unmistakably male names. I think that was more down to stressed, overworked midwife, dealing with the mid-September rush!

SixtyFootDoll · 18/08/2010 09:39

Raydon is a poisonous gas.
Idiots.

scottishmummy · 18/08/2010 09:58

in scotland registrar can refuse daft names.maybe weee raydon could have been saved

SixtyFootDoll · 18/08/2010 10:03

If you scroll down through the comments on the article, poor Mum of Raydon is defending her name choice.
Raydon is their derivative of Raymond, babys grandfather.

Feel a bit sorry for them they have had a right flaming, like lambs to the slaughter for the DM

scottishmummy · 18/08/2010 10:05

how are they lambs to slaughter?more like the liked they attention.no one compelled them

SixtyFootDoll · 18/08/2010 10:09

I can just see the DM, oh yes we'll print your story about this terrible mistake....whilst laughing up their sleeves knowing we would all be taking the piss out of stupid name choice.
