But is it a dog's name?

My artner and I both love the name Bonnie for a little girl, but I have this feeling it's a dog's name, not a person's name.

Do you know any humans called Bonnie?

Mrs goggins in postman pat has a dog called bonnie

otherwise I think of it as more of a nickname. Could it be short for something (struggling as I can only think of bonita).

diggingintheribs · 14/08/2010 20:40

Xpost! So bonita is a name and I didn't just make it up.

Rival28 · 14/08/2010 20:49

Every name I think of somebody has a pet of the same name! I like it but would not use it because of where I live! Here people would think bonnie Tyler or Cartwright from twin town.

RonansMummy · 14/08/2010 21:02

There was a girl called Bonnie at school and I always thought it was a really pretty name.

MrsJohnDeere · 14/08/2010 21:13

I used to work with a lovely lady called Bonnie.

It was also the name of dh's grandmother's King Charles Spaniel Grin.

bamboobutton · 14/08/2010 21:20

my sisters called Bonnie.

never heard any animals called bonnie.

snice · 14/08/2010 21:25

know a 9 yr old Bonnie (girl not dog)

pirateparty · 14/08/2010 21:30

I think you're remembering one of the Blue Peter dogs, which was called Bonnie. But I would NEVER have remembered that if you hadn't mentioned a link. I've never heard of any subsequent dogs called Bonnie.

I think it is a lovely name for a little girl.

QuickLookBusy · 14/08/2010 21:32

I have a friend called Bonnie.

She's lovely!!!

MollysChambers · 14/08/2010 21:34

I always think "but what if she's not...."

katiepotatie · 14/08/2010 21:34

I know one girl, she'd be about 36 now, and 2 dogs. Means pretty up here in Scotland, but i have a friend from Derby and it means fat there apparently

I have a good friend called Bonnie (but she doesn't like her name!)

I think it's okay but prefer Connie.

LuluF · 16/08/2010 19:05

For me 'Megan' is a dog's name (I know SO many) - I know what you mean about Bonnie - but we did meet a little girl named Bonnie not so long ago and DH and I both thought how lovely it was.

mumtoabeautifulbabyboy · 16/08/2010 19:34

Makes me think of Rhett and Scarlett's daughter in Gone With the Wind - so a 'real persons' name to me!

Do agree with the, what if she's not? comment though - sorry:)

BabyDubsEverywhere · 16/08/2010 19:59

My neice is a 21 year old Bonnie, and HATES it! People do associate it with dogs as it is a popular dogs name, even on blue peter. And she says when she introduces herself she waits to see if they make the face that shows they think of the dog association too.

I think its a lovely names as my neice is lovely Smile

lurcherlover · 16/08/2010 20:12

It's a very girly name - what if she turns out to be a real tomboy?

rainbowinthesky · 16/08/2010 20:13

I love the name, Bonnie.

rainbowinthesky · 16/08/2010 20:13

I wouldnt associate it with a dog's name either.

Eglu · 16/08/2010 20:19

I think Bonnie is sweet.

stleger · 16/08/2010 21:15

I have only ever known one dog called Bonnie. And I have known many dogs! (I know a lot called Jack and Charlie at present). I would have thought 'Gone With the Wind' before Bonnie Langford. And as for 'What if she isn't?' - All babies are to their parents.

Atlasive · 17/08/2010 12:01

Bonnie Langford, or a dog.
