i really like Miranda. I have wanted to call a girl Miranda since i was 8 when i fist heard the name.

DH wants Rosie, in this case rosalind...

He doesn't like Miranda because it sounds like 'Veranda' Confused

The other two are in the mix, the problem with Minerva is DH thinks is too odd, Miriam i think is too...proper sounding (and is yet another Mary variant) and was the name of my brothers now Ex-GF of 5 years.

so, enlightened MNers, is there another way i can look at Roslaind to like it more? Or another way to sell DH Miranda (I have told him how cool all the Mirandas on Tv are, and how beautiful all the Mirandas i have met in person..)

I feel we had such lovely names for our first 2 DC, Rosalind would be a second string choice. (shortens to 'Roz' as menioned on 2 threads!)

i am 40 + 6 by scan date, 40 + by LMP. We need this resolved (though not as much as the lady whose baby is 2 weeks old!).

Is causing marital disharmony.

What about Rosemie/Rosalie?

minipie · 11/08/2010 18:26

Do you like any Rosa- names? Rosaline like you wrote in your thread title? Or Rosamund? Rosabel?

Miranda is a lovely name IMO but you can't make your DH like it if he doesn't...

Maybe wait till you just gave birth and then demand you get to choose Grin

EnglandAllenPoe · 11/08/2010 18:26

rhyming slang for tea?

Yes, Rosemary/Rosalie might be better as they are "Rose" sounds not "Roz" sounds?

EnglandAllenPoe · 11/08/2010 18:28

...i feel a bit like i should, because., after all, I'm going to have to go through labour and stuff....(and he shouldn't argue with me whilst I'm all hormonal and tired?)

Rosemary is lovely

and Minerva Rose

Northernlurker · 11/08/2010 18:33

Well I have a Miranda and a Rosalind Grin
We went with a Shakespearean theme (dd3 is Beatrice).

Miranda means something like 'worthy of admiration, deserving to be admired' - which I think is a fab name meaning for a beautiful baby girl. Rosalind means beautiful rose - also v appropriate. My Rosalind is very definately not a Rosie - we call her Rossie pronounced Rozzie. It's a bit more unusual than Rosie.
Nobody has ever likened Miranda to 'veranda' - that's really odd! I just think it's a great name that will stand your daughter in good stead whatever she wants to do in life.

EnglandAllenPoe · 11/08/2010 18:48

fan northern ..thing is, i think this could be our last baby so I'm not going to get another go to get my Miranda..thouh i think it is coforting that you have both and are qually pleased.

belgo - i think -rose names have been a bit too used this year (though probs not with Minerva)..

the thinking behind Minerva is DD1 has a name that is a variant on 'Diana' and the other two Virgin Goddesses are Minerva and Hestia..(though i'd need a 3rd DD to make the triple..)

If it means that much to you then you need to tell dh that. I bet he will give way (especially if you cry) They are great names but if Miranda is where your heart is.....

Hestia is nice though Hmm I think I prefer it to Minerva which is a little 'stiff' imo.

lifeas3plus1 · 11/08/2010 19:51

This baby was going to be Minerva if he was a girl.

Obviously he's a boy though so of course I'm struggling.

So my Choice is Minerva.

EnglandAllenPoe · 11/08/2010 20:02

agree Minerva v. formal sounding name.....

though it would shorten to 'Minnie' for childhood.

after all this, it just would be a boy (similar discussion, Seth (me) vs Isaac (compromise) vs Arthur (DH)...baby didn't have any winky i could see though on the scans..)

I like all your boy's names - v good taste!

mathanxiety · 12/08/2010 00:57

I love your names too, but Miranda stands out. I love Romy as a variant of Rosemary also.

I really love Isaac.

Good luck -- it has to end sometime.
