Considering 'M' names also today amongst others. Thoughts?

Mariella
Marianne
Marcella

Also, keep coming back to: Carine (as in the French first name) and also reconsidering:

Agnes
Maud/e

Boys, what do you think of:

Willoughby, Will for short
Chester
Latimer
Marcus (this seems v underused to me)?

I like M names too :)
I love these: Marine; Mirabelle; Merrin; Marnie.

Of your list really like Mariella, I can't have that due to my last name starting 'La' - it's just too much! Carine somehow sounds a little old fashioned but I don't know why I say that. Boy names? I think you are right Marcus is due for a revival.

LaDiDaDi · 10/08/2010 16:15

I like Marcus, not keen on your other choices.

Maeve
Margot
Mabel

Willoughby was a rogue and a scoundrel. An all-round rotter (Sense and Sensibility) - you can't name a baby after a rotter. Marcus is a good name.

Of the girls, I LOVE Agnes.

Cortina · 10/08/2010 16:18

Well I could be v low brow and say Marcus Tandy was also a rouge and a rotter! If anyone remembers him and his mobile phone! :)

I really love Marianne and Marcus.

not sure about the rest.

LilMagill · 10/08/2010 17:12

Marianne. Gorgeous. Not with a brother Willoughby, though, for obvious Sense & Sensibility reasons!

LaundryLyne · 10/08/2010 17:21

Mariella - Frostrup
Marianne - like
Marcella - very nice :)
Carine - like, although I prefer Carina or Corinne
Agnes - not keen, sorry
Maud/e - OK

Willoughby, Will for short - OK but why not William?
Chester - a surname, place name or dog's name
Latimer - Latymer School
Marcus - a bit fussy, prefer plain Mark

Pasiphae · 11/08/2010 10:53

Love Mariella, but I think Marielle is even better, the spirit of the name without the fuss!
Strangely I like Marianna more than Marianne, it's just too French Patriotic for me.

All the others are nice as well. My best friend at School was Carine, but i have plenty of Karine too. Marcus rocks on the boys'list.

You could use Marcel for a boy, and I have a great GM called Marceline.

Marion, Myriam, Agatha, Coraline/Caroline?
Digby, Monty, Mortimer, Percy, Rudyard?

Cortina · 11/08/2010 11:03

Marianna of the moated grange, (think that was Marianna)?

Saw on the book thread people discussing Lehman's The Dusty Answer which I recently bought. There is a cool, collected, character 'Mariella' which is why I thought of it. Set around WW1 times. Also features a Martin, not somehow so attractive. Also a 'Julian' which I think is quite nice and certainly under-used more recently.

Quite like Agatha and Caroline from your suggestions, thanks.

at all your names ('cept for Chester Copperpot from The Goonies.) Willoughby is genius.

I was going to have Maggie short for Marianne back when DS2 was an it.

Kathleen123 · 11/08/2010 16:34

I like your girls names, dont like any of your boys names though.
