Same letter for siblings - too twee?

We have a Phoebe, and are expecting DD too.
DH and and I can only agree on three names - two of which are Florence and Frances. Is the alliteration too twee?

The only other name we have is Lydia, if that makes a difference.

I think Phoebe and Florence goes nicely. I'm sorry I don't really like Frances but that might just be because there was a horrible girl at school called Frances! Lydia and Phoebe go really nicely too!

I am not that keen on same letter sibling names but more for practical reasons rather than tweeness: e.g. confusion over the letters in the post. Your question is about the same sound which is a little different. I think any of the names you are thinking of sound good with Phoebe. The only caveat would be if you are thinking of having a third DC at some point. You might feel like you have created a precedent, maybe three siblings with the same letter sound would be getting a bit twee.

I think you have the perfect balance there because you have the cute alliteration but the different 1st letter keeps it sensible.

Don't see any problem at all. And Frances is a fabulous name, don't let lula put you off!

I've got 3 cousins with matching initials (1st & 2nd), aunt said it saved on resowing nametapes each year . . .

brimfull · 09/08/2010 17:18

no twee in your case
It is twee and vomitous when the whole family have names with same initial-I know 2 families like this.

lulabellamozerella · 09/08/2010 17:20

I'm sorry! I like all names like Frances but just couldn't name my daughter it because I never got on with her! I do love the nn Francie though!

neither DH nor I have an F name, by the way Grin.

I think Phoebe & Lydia are fantastic together.

Placketsleigh · 09/08/2010 18:30

I like all the names on your list and think any of them would go nicely together :)

GladioliBuckets · 09/08/2010 18:33

Is it twee then to name a child the same as you or your DP?

hana · 09/08/2010 18:38

i don't get the whole confusion about post - most post is addressed with first and second names.
not twee at all
unless you have a smattering of kids all starting with same letter

Takver · 09/08/2010 19:06

Gladioli - not twee, totally standard in a lot of countries (particularly first boy named after father). Bloody confusing when you have 3 generations in the same house, though (always having to explain on the phone whether you want Maximo senior, the electrician, Maximo middle to go to the pub with DH, or Maximo junior to play with dd . . .)
