I want to make sure that any name i choose isn't in the top 50 names - and there's a website which gives this years or last years top names in england and wales i think. Anyone know it?

Just do a search on google for top 50 names - that's what we did.

The National Statistics website here has the top 100 girl and boys names for the past 5 years.

How about this page on popularity of names?

you should also look at your local city website as that gives a list of all the names registered in the last year - just to see what's common/popular in your area.

Try this great website it lists the top 300 boys and girls names for the past 7 years and you can plot trends over the past 100 years amongst other things.

The office of national statistics is the best place, here - click the links on the top right depending on whether you want boys or girl's names.
