Otillie

Tilda

Clothilde (but please don't)

JimmyTarbuck · 26/07/2010 21:37

I have a niece Natalie, known as Tilly

4andnotout · 26/07/2010 21:40

I have a Tilly, when people ask what it's short for we tell them Attilla

4andnotout · 26/07/2010 21:43

I read the Poem Matilda as a child and couldn't get over it hence only having a Tilly not a Matilda

PaulineCampbellJones · 26/07/2010 21:44

Millicent?

DrivenToDistraction · 26/07/2010 21:44

Grand as an nn for Otillie, but then I love that name

Librashavinganotherbiscuit · 26/07/2010 21:49

I am not even sure how to pronounce Otille!

I thought Milly would be more usual for Millicent.

DH just suggested Tilda but for some reason I HATE that name.

ha! I have a Matilda (not a Tilly) and had never heard that poem before but it's excellent! not least because she has, once or twice, dialled 999 (aged one) and did indeed have the police turn up on the doorstep . They probably even came from hackney downs - we live near there!

Anyway, why not just call her Tilly?!

LaundryLyne · 27/07/2010 20:28

I've only heard of it as short for Matilda.

Tas1 · 28/07/2010 13:50

My DD is called Tilly. Her nick name is Tilda.
We were going to call her Matilda but knew we would shorten it to Tilly, so went for Tilly staight off.

PineappleJuice · 29/12/2010 11:52

Talia?

Nightstar · 29/12/2010 13:19

I know a Juliette who is shortened to Tilly

ShowOfHands · 29/12/2010 13:24

My Tilda (Mathilda) has dialled 999 before. She was ringing her daddy (copper).

Otillie (Ot illy) is beautiful.

You could just go with Tilly. I'm the opposite of you. Tilly is twee and cutesy. Tilda is strong. Plus Mathilda means mighty in battle and that suits our Tilda perfectly. She's a tank.

LadyStitt · 09/01/2011 12:28

My friend is called Tilly, Short for Teleri, i love this name but can't use it!

NannyState · 09/01/2011 17:16

Tilda rice.

I know a Thalia who is Tilly to close family and friends.

Also know a grown up Estelle who is Tilly for short.

onimolap · 09/01/2011 17:23

I suppose it would also work for for Bathilda (no, not a made up HP name, but an early saint).

cowboylover · 09/01/2011 19:44

My friend Tilly is Natalie but I agree if you like the name Tilly is a good stand alone name so just call her that!

PorkChopSter · 09/01/2011 19:50

Sylvia.

I have no idea why, but she is.
