anything to go with renate

it's my mum's name, and I'm feeling guilty, as I can't think of anything to go with it.

I'd want to use it as a 2nd name rather than a 1st (all our shortlisted names have a grandparent's name but renate doesn't fit with any of them...

Mary (Josephine - my nanna)
Elizabeth (Juliette - MIL is Julie)
Rhiannon (undecided!)

We don't know if it's a girl, but just want to be prepared!

How do you pronounce it?

rene

boo-boom

I think Elizabeth Renate sounds nice. I suppose I can imagine Elizabeth said in a german accent so goes well.

I kind of think it doesn't matter too much whether your first name & middle name "go". That's probably heresy on this board. I gave my daughter a middle name that didn't really "go" with the first name I wanted, but it was an important family name. I don't think I've ever used it, apart from filling in forms for her etc. I myself have a surname as a middle name - & an ugly one at that -so perhaps that biases me.

So, err, rambling short, I'd just pick the first name you like the best.

pronounced re-na-te (or ta at the end. Sometimes gets spelt that way, but me/mum get annoyed at the various mis-spellings! lol hence prefer it as a 2nd name)

lol thanks iskra I stupidly blurted out the names we'd thought of already, and only realised after that my mum's face had fallen for not considering her name

I do like the name, but atm have a real thing about names flowing! Still got 8ish weeks to decide, plus it's 50:50 for if it's needed anyway, so still got time to ruminate on it

How about three names? Or would it be foolish to use up all the family names and then have nothing left for subsequent babies?

Elizabeth Renate Juliet
Mary Renate Josephine
Rhiannon Julia Renate

Josephine Mary Renate is lovely, imo.
