Emmeline Claire & Leo Michael

DH and I have been talking about names for a while now, and we think we've settled on Emmeline Claire & Leo Michael as our girl/boy options (although with a couple of months left, we have the time to change....)

Just wondered what general opinions are on these choices - like or dislike?

Thanks everyone x

I have an Emmeline- good choice! She is eight months old and called Emmeline Christabel Petra oursurname.

Not too keen on Leo- would you give him the full name and just use Leo as a nickname?

JosephineClaire · 23/07/2010 00:13

I think we'd just choose Leo

Our baby is due on the feast day of St Leo the Great
(not that we're choosing names based on dates/religion, and the chances of baby coming on due date are quite slim aren't they?)

But we just really liked it when we heard it

I think it is a name in its own right, and we're not keen on Leon/Leonard/Leonardo

My dad was Leonard and he was always known as Leo. I reckon it is a pretty cool name, strong and to the point.

Don't know any Emmelines but it sounds lovely!

Ineedsomesleep · 23/07/2010 08:58

Emmeline is a great choice our DD is one. A word of warning however, almost evreyone will think she is named Emily. Its got to the point where I only correct people we are going to meet again.

I did meet a lovely old nurse the other week though who said "Oh, like Mrs Pankhurst, how lovely".

Not keen on Leo, it makes me think of the Blairs but Leonard Michael rocks.

notso · 23/07/2010 09:06

I love Emmeline, I want it but DH is not keen. I had wondered about the Emily thing Ineedsomesleep, everytime I mention it I find myself saying Emmelii-nu!

I like Leo but know lots of them, agree Leonard is cool and give the option of Lenny.

Butterpie · 23/07/2010 09:12

I am shocked at amount of blank faces we get when we say she is named after Mrs Pankhurst, I really am.

We get Emily a lot, or Emmelina- which I didn't think was even a name!

Ineedsomesleep · 23/07/2010 09:35

Butterpie, when DD was born one close family member asked how we had chosen the name then told me that Mrs Pankhurst was named Emily not Emmeline and people would laugh at us. Really wanted to say, erm have you not got google or even a library ticket?

JosephineClaire · 23/07/2010 09:57

I think Mrs Pankhurst is a fantastic namesake - and agree with you both about how strange it is that so few people I've mentioned it to have made the connection(!)

my middle name is emmeline and never met another one but always get nice comments about it

violetsmile · 23/07/2010 10:02

Both great names! Love Emmeline, very pretty and underused.

Leo, is very nice too.

You have good taste imo!

JosephineClaire · 23/07/2010 10:10

Thank you Violetsmile

Having said all that about our DD, if I had to name her again I'd still choose Emmeline. It really suits her and we love it.

TakeLovingChances · 23/07/2010 10:14

I love the name Emmeline, but DH not keen.

There's a lovely elegant lady in our church called Emmeline, so for me it has good connotations.

bellamysbride · 23/07/2010 10:19

My middle name is Emmeline, my Dad was a history teacher. I love it.

meadowlarks · 23/07/2010 11:49

I love Emmeline. Personally I would use Leopold and shorten it to Leo.

Kathleen123 · 23/07/2010 13:42

I like Leo.

Emmaline. I think I like. Quite unusual. Never met an Emmaline before.

Kathleen123 · 23/07/2010 13:43

P.S. I like Leo but not Leonard or Leopold.

ReasonableDoubt · 23/07/2010 13:48

I really don't like Claire, but I think Emmeline is fabulous and Leo Michael is also lovely.

youremindmeofthebabe · 23/07/2010 13:54

I like both names. I love Leon as well as a longer (just) version.

CakeandRoses · 23/07/2010 15:02

Love them both.

Emmeline was on our short list for a first name then a middle name (in honour of Ms Pankhurst) and Leo would have been if we didn't already have a Felix!

Claire and Michael work well with them.

Aryas · 23/07/2010 15:42

Butterpie, I love your DD's name. I think Emmeline Pankhurst had a daughter called Christabel - it all fits very nicely.

Butterpie · 23/07/2010 17:46

She did- hence the name

LittleMissWorryHead · 23/07/2010 19:27

Fab names!

I am a Clare and married to a Michael, so obviously am loving the middle names (although I think you should spell Clare the proper way )

JosephineClaire · 26/07/2010 10:17

Thanks LittleMiss - we do have Claires and Clares in my family, but my middle name and the baby's godmother's name is Claire

But you're right, Claire & Michael are FAB
