We're having our second boy in a couple of weeks and we're really struggling to choose between the current front-runners (grrrr - why couldn't I have had girls - SO much easier).

These are the current contenders:

Seth
Linus
Laurence (nn Laurie)
Rowan
Calvin
Ethan
Austin
Adam (DH's favourite, I'm not keen)
Jude (I like, DH not keen)

NB DS1 is Paul, so has to work ok with that. Surname is a very normal, 2 syllable job. Any other suggestions also most welcome. Thanks!

Out of your list I like Seth, Calvin and Adam.

I really like Jude as well, and it was on our list for DS, but we binned it as we were concerned about it making him an easy target for being teased by other kids. He ended up as an Oscar.

Congrats by the way

LuluF · 21/07/2010 14:14

From your list, I really like Laurence with the Laurie nn.

Tasala · 21/07/2010 14:23

Seth - OK
Linus - Wet
Laurence (nn Laurie) - OK
Rowan - Nice for a girl
Calvin - No
Ethan - OK
Austin - Dated
Adam - very nice
Jude - Girly

MrsJohnDeere · 21/07/2010 14:29

Like Laurence and Rowan. Others not my cup of tea.

alittlebitshy · 21/07/2010 14:32

I am loving Seth, Ethan and Jude!

JimmyTarbuck · 21/07/2010 14:51

i like these

Seth
Laurence esp like nn Laurie
Ethan
Austin
Jude

SpiderWilliam · 21/07/2010 15:34

I think that Adam fits best with Paul. I also think it is a very good name too. Friends' son is Adam, they sometimes call him "Ads" for short rather than as a regular nn.

PaintingTheFence · 21/07/2010 18:07

I like Seth, Linus and Ethan best from your list.

Other ideas

Harry
Elias/Eli
Silas
Luke
Jonah
Evan
Samuel
Jacob/Jake
Liam
Joshua

Hedwig3 · 21/07/2010 18:54

Love Seth, Linus and Laurence.

ReasonableDoubt · 21/07/2010 18:56

Seth - really don't like it. It's the 'th' sound. It's lispy.

Linus - beyond awful

Laurence (nn Laurie) - lovely

Rowan - sounds like a girl's name

Calvin - horrid

Ethan - don't like

Austin - could grow on me, but quite formal sounding

Adam (DH's favourite, I'm not keen) - love it. Classic.

Jude (I like, DH not keen) - lovely

ElusiveMoose · 21/07/2010 21:52

Grrr, everyone was supposed to agree so I'd know what to pick . Actually, I think Laurie has had the widest appeal so far, so I might have to give that one some more thought (it wasn't a front-front-runner before).

Linus is very much the best! (i am slightly biased here tho )

also like Laurence, Seth, Rowan, Adam and Calvin

Eglu · 21/07/2010 21:56

Seth - Love this
Linus - also love
Laurence (nn Laurie) - not keen
Rowan - a bit girly?
Calvin - Hollyoaks
Ethan - okay
Austin - lovely namr
Adam (DH's favourite, I'm not keen) - I like this
Jude (I like, DH not keen) - DS2's middle name, so obviously like it

OctaviaH · 21/07/2010 21:57

Seth- it's ok. Just ok though
Linus- not keen, sorry
Laurence (nn Laurie)- like very much. Are you prepared for inevitable larry though?
Rowan- like lots
Calvin- very nice
Ethan- not keen
Austin- no
Adam (DH's favourite, I'm not keen)- beautiful, classic, underused
Jude (I like, DH not keen)- not keen either

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/07/2010 21:59

I love Seth and Laurence. Adam is nice as well and goes well with Paul.

We had Seth and Laurence on our list for DS. Others on the list were Dominic, Barnaby and Fergus.

BelligerentGhoul · 21/07/2010 22:00

Seth - sorry but I detest this name
Linus - not fond but way better than Seth!
Laurence (nn Laurie) - brilliant name
Rowan - love it
Calvin - nope
Ethan - nope
Austin - hideous
Adam (DH's favourite, I'm not keen)- like it
Jude (I like, DH not keen) - like it

I like Laurence and Rowan the best and these would have been my boys' names, if I'd had boys!

theagedparent · 21/07/2010 22:05

Linus then Seth

mumtoabeautifulbabyboy · 21/07/2010 22:06

I really like Rowan, we considered it for our little one (we went with Benjamin), also liked Reuben (though I have noticed it's becoming increasingly popular)

jellybeans · 21/07/2010 22:23

Seth...like
Linus...dislike, reminds me of LOST
Laurence (nn Laurie)...dislike, middle aged
Rowan...dislike for boy, too unisex
Calvin...dislike, undies
Ethan....love it
Austin...love it
Adam ...like
Jude...dislike, too girly

I like Austin best as others quite popular.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 23/07/2010 11:27

Seth - like
Linus - too american (peanuts)
Laurence (nn Laurie) - not keen
Rowan - a bit girlie
Calvin - ...and hobbs
Ethan - love (my DS's name)
Austin - like
Adam (DH's favourite, I'm not keen) - dull
Jude (I like, DH not keen) - like

ElusiveMoose · 23/07/2010 14:07

Thank you for your continued input.

Girlwiththemouseyhair that's why I like Calvin .

OP posts:
edeluna · 23/07/2010 20:29

I like Linus. It's unusual yet familiar enough not to seem really obscure or out there. Regarding GirlWithTheMouseyHair's comment that it's too American bc of Peanuts, I can assure you that while every American knows Linus from Peanuts, very few name their kids after him. I've never known a real-life Linus.

violetsmile · 23/07/2010 20:33

Loving Adam, Ethan, Rowan and Calvin. My favourite is Rowan but I do prefer it for a girl. I'd go with Calvin, it's beautiful.

mintyfresh · 23/07/2010 20:40

Ha ha - you have 3 names that were on my shortlist:

Seth - didn't choose because of problems with our surname

Jude - love it

Laurence (Laurie) - this is what my DS ended up with so obviously the best choice!!

Good luck - I like all your names on the list tbh ...

Mollydoggerson · 23/07/2010 21:12

My son is Rowan - damn all of the non -Rowan lovers!! lol!

I'll have to go for Rowan out of your list.

I like Laurance and Jude.

I also like David and Louis.
