HI,

What does everyone think of these two names for a boy?

Skyler
Blaize

Also, does anyone like the name Soleil for a girl?

Thank you : ))

Hate them both sorry sound luke celeb chav names to me.

UnholyMoley · 17/07/2010 16:08

Skyler sounds like it might be some kind of air balloon.

mathanxiety · 17/07/2010 16:14

I love Soleil and Blaise (spelled with an S not a Z). Skyler I dislike intensely. UnholeyMoley, LOL, I feel the same (mylar inthe sky..)

Blaise is a rally old name -- St. Blaise is a patron saint of throats and some churches hold a St. Blaise's Day blessing of throats. He was an Armenian bishop back in the 4th century or thereabouts.

valiumSingleton · 17/07/2010 16:17

I like Blaise for a girl actually. I mean, I wouldn't pick it myself, but it's nice in a modern unisex ish kind of way.

Skyter is just ridiculous though, I don't know what to make of that, so I hope I don't read back the thread and see that somebody has posted that their 2 year old skyter is the cutest thing and everybody compliments them on the name.

Soleil is...... not terrible but not really good either. I like Soledad, a Spanish name. It means solitude though so you mightn't like the meaning. You don't really pronounce the 2nd D like you would in English. So it's not SoledaD it's more like SoleDah

valiumSingleton · 17/07/2010 16:18

modern!? I said modern and now I learn it's a saints name! Oh well I like it more now I think because it sounds like a modern non-crusty choice but it's a proper name. I like Bruno for the same reason.

valiumSingleton · 17/07/2010 16:20

Oh, I see it is actually Skyler, not skyter. That is less bad definitely. I think I have seen the name Schuyler used before, but it is very Dutch. Are you Dutch!? Will people ask you if you are Dutch I wonder?

Kathleen123 · 17/07/2010 16:23

Soleil - no, think of suncream.

Sykla for a girl - love.

Blaise - okay as a boys name, if it is an s rather than z. With the z it makes me think of a fire.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 17/07/2010 16:24

I know a Skyler - but can't say I like it anymore than I like Blaize. Sorry.

champagnesupernova · 17/07/2010 16:42

Blaise is a catholic saint
I know one. Hated name as a child but has grown into now.

Jazmyn · 17/07/2010 18:16

@ Valium: My partner is Dutch and has never heard of the name "Schuyler" and neither have I (we both live in holland), despite wiki saying it's of Dutch origin, it's not commonly used here so I doubt you'd get much comment about it.

valiumSingleton · 17/07/2010 18:27

Oh well that is typical! Americans on a baby name board told me it was Dutch.

Shaz10 · 17/07/2010 18:30

Isn't Soleil the name of the actress who played Punky Brewster?

CapitalText · 17/07/2010 18:53

Nothing against "out there" names but I just don't like those, sorry.

SE13Mummy · 17/07/2010 18:54

I would be put off Skyler simply because so many people replying to this thread have found it hard to type the letters in the correct order... the child will have years of having her name spelled incorrectly.

Blaise (with an S) is nice. Reminds me of Blaise Castle in Bristol where we spent lots of time as children.

lucybrad · 18/07/2010 14:57

I have a friend with Skyler - its lovely

rosieposey · 18/07/2010 15:09

Both sound a bit 'Dynasty' tbh

EricNorthmansmistress · 18/07/2010 15:16

all awful

TotorosOcarina · 18/07/2010 15:19

No, I like unusual names but No.

Skyler sounds like some bratty American teen.

Blaize sounds like a porno name, "Hey, I'm Blaize Johnson and this is my wang"

And Soliel or whatever the heckers sounds like a suntan lotion.

SoupDragon · 18/07/2010 15:20

Shocking, all of them.

HotSprocket · 18/07/2010 15:29

I know a Blaize, she is a girl though.

I'm a bit unsure, i was all for out there, weird named then once dd was born it suddenly hit me i was naming an actual person iyswim.

Skyler is quite nice, Sky would be a nice shortened version.

Pasiphae · 19/07/2010 13:48

I like Blaise with an S.
I looooove Soleil.

Skyler seems better for a girl. It's pretty in a weird modern way. There is also Sylar for a boy.

mathanxiety · 20/07/2010 05:57

Or Silo? It would go with the 'names ending in O' trend
