Kitty or Charlotte?

We're getting close to her making an appearance (it feels like she is trying to claw her way out at the moment), and as much as I know we will prob completely change our minds when she appears I am still torn between these two as my vote! (We both love them, I'm just trying to foist them on him!)

I know Kitty is slightly more unusual, but we do love it and feels that it has enough 'tradition' to not be a mean name to foist on a child/future adult.

Whereas obviously Charlotte is used far more commonly, but we don't know any and feel that it is both pretty and traditional.

We think we will have Rose (after family) as the middle name, and our surname rhymes with Dollier!

Any opinions would be appreicated!

So true - my daughter actually named herself after Hello Kitty, but then she is only 3!

I like Kitty as a nickname but agree with the hello Kitty association. It's cute rather than a sesible name nowdays, would work great with Katherine or Kathryn.

Prefer Katherine to Charlotte.

Isn't Kitty a nickname? Can't stand it personally - sounds like either a pet (kitten) or an old lady's nickname.

I have a Kitty, and obviously absolutely love the name.

Doesn't 'scream' anything to me except my dd's sweet face...

Really like Charlotte. Kitty sounds like a nn and is pretty but when a baby Kitty grows up and goes for a job interview she might like a more formal name to put on the application form.

Charlotte is lovely - classic and pretty. I would definitely go for that over Kitty.

Thanks all! Loads of great opinions here, keep 'em coming. I hadn't thought of Hello Kitty, it doesn't really feature in my world at the moment! Will raise it with the husband and see if he sees it being an issue.

To me Kitty is a nn - short for something like Kathleen or Katherine/Kathryn.

Love Lottie so I'd go with Charlotte and Lottie for every day purposes (would have been my choice for a girl after my wonderful late Auntie Lotty).

Kitty's a nickname so if you prefer that, I'd put Catherine on the birth certificate and just use Kitty.

Just found this thread in my 'threads I started' list...just to say we went with neither and named her Rose!

I'm of absolutely zero help because I love them both!

DD2 is Kitty, not short fpr anything. We've had loads of compliments on it.

Just hope it doesn't go the way of DD1's name which entered the top 20 baby names list for 2010 - it wasn't even in the top 100 five years ago when she was born!

I would only use Kitty for a nickname-I always want to say 'KittyKat'.
