every name I think of turns out to be a brand name

Baby is 2 weeks old and we still don't have a name for her. The problem is there's always a problem with every name I like. You lot can have a good laugh at this lot but all of them have been highlighted on old threads as brand names.

Flora
Clover
Liberty
Freya

And this is the rest of my shortlist

Louisa
Anna (DH says no but i may wear him down)
Rachel
Sorrel
Rosanna

any suggestions???

I don't think the brand name thing matters tbh. It's not as if you are suggesting Toshiba or something. They are all proper names.

SpiderWilliam · 14/07/2010 14:15

I agree with Lostmyheart. I thought your list was going to be all Gucci and Prada! I like Liberty and Freya. Not keen on Clover: I think of a cow's name rather than the brand.

Acanthus · 14/07/2010 14:17

Louisa and Anna are both timeless and beautiful. Laurel? Charlotte?

Hedwig3 · 14/07/2010 14:21

Love Anna.

I don't think any are a real problem brand-wise.

diggingintheribs · 14/07/2010 14:22

As they are proper names I don't think it's an issue (although Clover isn't great!).

Don't let it put you off!

scurryfunge · 14/07/2010 14:23

Flora is a lovely name.....I don't think it matters.

RabbitAndCo · 14/07/2010 14:23

Would never think of any of those names as brand names. Think they are all lovely. Except Clover.

MadreInglese · 14/07/2010 14:23

Ignore the brand thing and just pick which name you like

You could choose Louisa today and then next year Anne Summers could bring out a mature ladies home parties brand called Louisa

(not trying to put you off that particular name IYSWIM)

DancingOnMyBladder · 14/07/2010 14:26

I was thinking you were going down the

Nike
Heinz
Citroen

route. The ones you have are names in their own rights first and brands second.

LooL00 · 14/07/2010 14:27

Flora is dc2's favourite (she thinks Laura is short for Flora!). We can't have Laurel as we already have one tree-named child.

OP posts:
Acanthus · 14/07/2010 14:28

Doesn't that rule out Clover and Sorrel? (I know they're plants not trees, but still)

LooL00 · 14/07/2010 14:28

Good point madreinglese!

ReasonableDoubt · 14/07/2010 15:07

Love Rosanna.

fuschiapink · 14/07/2010 15:22

i really really like Flora, it was on my list for dd2 but dh vetoed it due to the margarine connections, I still love it though and I think if you did call a dd Flora you would forget about that anyway.

i also like Louisa from your list.
What about Eloise?

MadreInglese · 14/07/2010 15:22

LuLuF

valiumSingleton · 14/07/2010 16:17

I wouldn't worry about the brand thing.

SOme companies use beautiful underused girls names for their products. This is totally different from calling your child Gucci.

Although, of course Gucci is a name. But still.

BettyButterknife · 14/07/2010 16:17

I love Clover!! It was on my shortlist if this DC was a girl (it's not) along with Clementine, Edie and Margot. Sigh...

tyler80 · 14/07/2010 17:42

We used to have guinea pigs called Flora and Clover. Mind we also had one called Vitalite :-)

ShadeofViolet · 14/07/2010 17:49

I like all your names, except Clover.

I dont think it matters if its a brand name, as its a brand name second - its only if you chose a name thats a brand name first, like Coca Cola or Andrex that it would be a problem IMO.

Blu · 14/07/2010 17:55

You are over-thinking this, and over-consulting!

Pick a name you both like and don't ask anyone else at all (including close family members) what they think.
