Hi, I don't know if I'm having a boy or a girl yet. Having lots of difficulty picking names so please give me your opinions. What do people think about the name Isla for a girl or Euan for a boy?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Isla is a lovely name but has become increasingly popular. Two friends I know recently named their daughters Isla and I know another couple under the age of 2 as well. However, if you love it you should go for it.

One of my friends has a boy and a girl (3 and 5 months)called Ewan and Isla. I love both names and when I heard them (especially Isla), wished I'd used them first!

Thank you for your replies. Wow, another Ewan/Isla combination. I met an Isla today too - but I don't think it matters if a name is getting popular. Will carry on thinking...

Isla is so over done now. It's like it's taken over from Ella. It will sounds very dated in years to come I think.

Euan is ok.

I have a 12 year old Euan - he is sometimes mistaken for Evan.
Looking back perhaps Ewan/Ewen would have been a more practical spelling!
Ignore the person who sais 'Ew' makes them think of sth disgusting - personally I would say yuck or yeurghh!
You can NEVER please everybody on this site - Just go with what YOU like!!
His 4 year old sister calls him "Yu-Yu" or "Yuey" - as do we!
Interestingly if I had another DD Isla is on my list as well as Iona! We must have the same taste!!

mumofEandE · 18/07/2010 15:56

and he is Euan Tom (Scottish grandpa)
My 'imaginary' Isla is Isla Elizabeth.

violetsmile · 18/07/2010 16:07

Ewan looks better then Euan to me, it seems to flow better somehow and look less clumsy written that way. It's a gorgeous name either way though.

Isla is one of my names in reserve for possible future dd so I love it!

Isla and Euan are OK but I much prefer the middle names you are thinking of. Also like the Ewan spelling.

Catherine Isla and James Ewan would be very nice

cadburyheroes · 18/07/2010 19:22

I like both, and much prefer Euan to Ewan (I'm a Scot too ). Isla is one we've considered bu yes, seems very common the the moment. Iona?
