I'm 24 weeks pregnant and think we have nearly finally come to a decision about our baby's name, although am still struggling with boys names. I'd appreciate your opinions on these:

Girls
Iris Margaret (both my grandmothers named margaret)
Iris Cicely (dp's grandmother named Cicely)
Iris Elizabeth (Elizabeth family name from dp's side)

Boys
Harry Edward (Both family names) or maybe
Edward Harry (with nn Ted/Teddy/Ed)
Thomas Edward (with nn Tommy)

Thank you!

I think Iris Margaret would keep both families happy.

I like all of your boys names. Edward is the least popular of the three if that concerns you. Loads of Harry's around here and quite a lot of Thomas's. I also like all the nn you get with Edward.

My faves are:

Iris Elizabeth
Edward Harry

I am sorry but they are terrible, for the childs sake growing up keep a middle name and call the child something a little more up to date!!!Obvisouly an older mother!!

I love Cicely and Elizabeth but think Margaret sounds better with Iris.

And just to be completely subversive, Edward Thomas would be my favourite for a boy!

Thank you for your opinions so far. Can't believe I missed the ed out of the title.

MissKGF - I really didn't expect such rudeness, but hey I asked for opinions and that's certainly what I got . I'm 32 btw and don't think my choices are that way out old-fashioned???

OK this is a bit reveal by stealth but we have always liked Margaret as a middle name, however my mum HATES it (one of the Margarets was her mother). Hence why we are thinking of different middle names.

I would appreciate any feedback on the boys names - I know they are probably a bit samey and meh, and am open to suggestion. Dp and I just can't come up with anything we both LOVE and hasn't already been used within either family.

Thanks again

how rude MissKGF

I really love the name Iris. Am mmostly loving Iris Cicely.

Boys - I think I prefer the way Harry Edward sounds

happywheezer · 11/07/2010 17:37

Hi,
They are all lovely names
Iris Elizabeth
And Edward Harry

I too like the name Iris, and I am older.
I don't know what that says about me though,
probably like you we have good taste in baby names.

They are all lovely names.
BTW, I have an Edward, so would be biased and MIL name is Elizabeth, but don't like her much but don't let that put you off
Cicely a beautiful name.

pixiestix · 11/07/2010 18:17

My faves are Iris Elizabeth and Edward Harry.
And I am 27 so don't quite know what MissKGF is on.

Needaname · 11/07/2010 19:59

I'd say that Iris is almost too up-to-date! I love it but you might find there's an explosion of them and will date a DD very easily. Cicely Iris would be gorgeous (but Cicely is one my fave names that I can't use so I'm biased).

Tommy and Ted are lovely too. I think Harry has beena bit overdone.

Other than that they're all tasteful (according to me!) choices so no worries on that front.

sallyseton · 11/07/2010 20:02

Iris Elizabeth and Harry Edward are my favourites.

tummytickler · 11/07/2010 20:17

my 9 year old dd is Iris, and I was in my early 20's when I had her, so hardly old!
I used to worry about a popularuty explosion, but now she would be far, far older and distant drom a huge explosion in popularity, si i dont mind so much.
I prefer Iris Margaret.

I hate Harry, it is a horrible name, really bland. Thomas is bland, but ok.
Edward has nice nns, so I would pick that and call him Ned!

Hedwig3 · 13/07/2010 10:33

Harry
Thomas

Iris Cecily

Love all your girls name combos, but find all your boys names quite dull.
