Hi )

I'm really wanted a name that is a "family name" I.E My DD's name is Imogen Elizabeth (Imogen my sisters middle name - Elizabeth my mums name) and I'd love it if I could find something I like which again means something but I'm not keen on the reast of my family names lol! Anyone think of any different versions?

Names I'm looking for are versions of - Jane, Ruth, Anne, Charlotte, Dora . . Or for boys - Jimmy, Peter, Joseph.

I like Joseph but not sure if its a bit "plain jane" iyswim.

Not even sure this makes any sense . . Hopefully someone can decipher )

DD2 would have been Joseph James if she was a boy so obviously I'm biased about both of those.

If you don't like/want any of those why not go back a couple of generaions on the family tree and broaden your search?

Do a bit of family research and find a name further back, as goldfishbowl says. Bet you can find one you like or that can be modernised into something you like. What about your DH/P's family too?

lilllysa · 11/07/2010 10:51

Thats a good idea I'll ask my mum today and look a bit futher back DH's family not involved at all socan't head that way.

Really wanted a name of someone who was special to me.

Like the Joseph James idea and Charles (Charlie) for a boy

I like your girls names. And most of them go well with Imogen.

Charlotte Ruth (Lottie)
Charlotte Anne
Anthea Jane
Annabel Ruth or Annabel Jane
Theadora Jane

Your boys names are ok, Peter is my favourite.

My children have the same middle names as my parents middle names. Although my Dad goes by his middle name, so really my son's middle name is my Dad's actual name. I've no regrets about using family names for middle names. I'm very glad I did.

Peter - Peirs, Simon,

GladioliBuckets · 11/07/2010 21:28

Why not ask the special people what their favourite names are? That might be just as much of a compliment if you chose one of those.

toomuchinformationalert · 12/07/2010 20:32

Jane, Jean, Jeanie, Joan,
Ruth, Ruthie, Ruthann
Anne, Joanne, Joanna, Anastasia
Charlotte, Carlotta, Charlene, Charles
Dora, Theodore, Theodora, Dorothy, Dottie
Jimmy, Jamie
Peter, Petra, Peteris
Joseph, Josephine, Jose

I think Ruth and Charlotte are really gorgeous all by themselves. Charles is also very nice.

Josephine, Joseph, Peter -- lovely, not a bit too plain.

Dora -- Theodora or Isadora

James -- Hamish, Seamus

Jean and Anne -- lots of variations, and both can be used as mns easily.
