quiet baby video monitor recommendations

Hi, we have a motorola video baby monitor and even on the lowest volume settings its still a bit too loud and we can hear her chuntering and a sort of background continuous air hum (if that makes sense!) e.t.c. we just want to be able to hear if she cries. Any recommendations would be gratefully received. we are not interested in sensor mats e.t.c

Have you tried actually turning it down from the monitor? Sounds silly but mine lets me adjust the volume.

yes we have tried that.

How old is your baby and how far away from you do they sleep? I found that by the time my son was old enough to sleep in a different room, it was fine to just leave the doors open and we heard him cry just fine without the monitor (and we sleep on different floors of the house). Would that be an option for you?
