Baby monitor with batteries in both units

I am looking for a baby monitor to take camping, so it needs to take batteries in both the parent and baby unit. Can anyone recommend one? As cheap as possible as we don't need one otherwise as our flat is tiny!

Why do you need one for camping? Surely the very thin walls will be fine...

We're going with friends, I think we'll be sitting around the campfire and I'm worried about hearing the baby over the sounds of everyone talking

If you've both got mobiles with plenty of free minutes and they both have coverage, call one with the other; leave one in the tent and bring the other with you on speaker. Cheaper than buying a monitor. Anyway if you're sitting round a camp fire I find it tends to lead to lots of staring into the flames and introspection, I doubt you'll get very loud (if you do some other camper will come out and tell you to be quiet anyway if it's a family site!)

Thanks moggle, wouldn't it drain the batteries though? We won't have electricity.

I wouldn't think it would be too bad, but I'd only do it if I knew I would be able to charge it up in the car or somewhere else the next day. I have a portable power pack thingy for this kind of situation. I don't think a simple call would drain the battery as much as accessing the internet on the phone would.
You can always have a practice run beforehand, make an hour long call and see what effect it has.

The better way than leave the phone on is to get baby monitoring app! I'm using Baby Monitor by Annie, you can even use your ipad as the baby camera. It has a night mode, night light, tells you when your baby is awake and everything. Doesn't take much of the battery either. I couldn't be without it anymore!

Thanks, I have an android phone but I've googled and found a few free ones. It depends on the campsite having Internet access so we'll see how it goes!
