Wanted: baby video monitor with battery for both units and two way communication

We need a new monitor. I want one with video, where both units can be battery or mains powered, that also has two way communication (ie parent can talk to child as well as parent can hear child). Any tips? Or even tips for good websites that let you sort by function, including these functions?

I'm not in the UK so will be ordering from an international online shop - so just about any brand is a possibility. I've been looking at Philips Avent or Motorola.

When you say both units do you mean you would like the camera to also have a battery option?

Don't think I have seen one of those!

When I looked into this I was quite surprised that Baby monitors are nowhere near as sophisticated as I had imagined, anyway I wanted the most up to date Motorola with WiFi camera but it was delayed in release so in the end went for the MBP36S which has the other features you are looking for. I have found it ok to use, it has won awards etc.

But it doesn't have two way communication. No way to tell the toddler to "get back into bed!" without going downstairs. ;(

I was looking at the Motorola MBP36S but the reviews on amazon.com are pretty bad. Loads of people saying "DON'T BUY THIS". So now I just don't know.

I know just what you mean, I was the same, took ages to make a decision.

Although now I have the monitor I can see some of the negative reviews were down to user error, such as short battery life which you can maximise by turning screen brightness down low and just keeping sound on then review video if any noise or just keep turning screen on to check every now and again.

The battery is not meant to support constant use, just when you are away from a plug, mine lasts all day downstairs for naps and bedtime then I take it up with me and keep plugged in by the bed all night ready for the next day. No different to laptop or smartphone really

I gave the baby security website company a phone call, they were very good to chat to, know their products well and may be able to recommend something to you? (I don't work for them, honest!)
