Do I need a baby monitor right away?

I'm expecting my first baby and just wondering if I need a monitor right away? The baby will be sleeping in the same room as us to begin with, so not sure?

Is it still worth having one? (not sure when else you'd use it!)

No of course not. The time to use one is when they start going to bed before you in the evening and napping upstairs during the day (not for some weeks)
