My niece is expecting her 1st baby next month and I'd like to get them a baby monitor. I know they will want to go walkabout in garden as they have a bungalow - could anyone recommend one that would 'do the job' without costing a fortune. I'm out of touch at my age now!!!!

I am not sure what your budget is but I use this one, It's been totally invaluable. Great picture, great sound, great peace of mind. Cheapest one I can find at the moment is here on ebay. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TDV450-Digital-Video-Plus-Baby-Monitor-by-Tomy-New-14-Day-Returns-/181101976379?pt=UK_Baby_BabyMonitors_SM&hash=item2a2a84db3b
