Feeling overmedicated on thyroid dose increase despite normal blood test results

In August I started alternating my thyroid medication between 87.5 and 100 as was told I needed a higher dose - I had tried 100 before but I felt overmedicated and had to stop. Well, the same thing happened with alternating and started to feel very overmedicated so a few weeks ago I just went back to my old dose - it’s been 4 weeks and although it’s got better I still feel overmedicated - recent results were TSH 2.28, Free Thyroxine 19.6 and Free T3 4.6. I know they are all normal and within range but I don’t feel normal at all! I am tempted to just stop for 2 weeks and ‘start again’! Anyone been through anything similar? Grateful for any insight! Thanks for reading

What makes you feel you are over medicated? I take 100 but frequently forget and dont notice much difference so curious what differences you notice.

Don’t just stop then start again, because your next blood test won’t accurately reflect your response to whatever dose you’re on then. But please do stand your ground and tell your GP that you’re still not feeling right. It’s perfectly possible that you’re not on the optimal dose for you, despite the test results being ‘in range’.

I feel shaky, wired, sleeping trouble and weird hot feelings/sensations in arms - exactly the same as I had before. Feels awful! Would rather have under active thyroid symptoms!

Thank you - yes, speaking to GP on Friday so will tell them this is not right for me - second attempt at a higher dose and the same result so it’s clearly not working. Thanks so much for the link - I will have a read

Unfortunately if your in the uk our nhs service won’t prescribe t3 which is what our body converts
with low thyroid function the body gets over flushed with t4 meds but it doesn’t convert to t3 very well so although our bloods show our tsh as a normal range it’s not showing that the conversion isn’t happening.

t3 is what we need to feel balanced.

I’ve had 13 years without a thyroid and so have dealt with this for a long time.

it could be due to a new brand of t4, however it also could be your t3 not high enough which basic surgery bloods won’t test for.

thyroid Uk is a really informative website with user questions and info sections which would explain it better than I probably have.

depending on your age your natural hormone fluctuation changes will also affect levels.

feeling over mediated is horrendous I also would rather be under medicated except for the bone pain and fatigue but it’s better than the anxiety shakes and raving heart
