My daughter had some itching symptoms and the blood results show an overactive thyroid. (Plus low Vit D and Iron).
GP has requested another blood test for 2 months time and I’m expecting the same results for the thyroid.

has anyone else been though this?

what should I expect?

Can we help an overactive thyroid naturally (by diet?)

thank you

My mum had an overactive thyroid. She wasn't young like your daughter, she was probably late 40s. She did have to take medication for it but it isn't the same as under active thyroid medication that you have to take for life. She took it for a period of time and then she didn't need it any more.

Hi. thank you for your response. During the treatment was your mum fine to carry on with everyday tasks or was she tired. I have read that you may need to keep away from children for 3 months.

I have over active thyroid with Graves and took Carbimazole until my bloods looked better. I did not need to stay away from children! They should be monitoring with blood tests to get the dose right. I also have thyroid swelling which was seen on a ct scan so she should also have one. I was immediately sent to the encrinologist consultant and have been under them since diagnosis. I have regular blood tests etc and see the consultant every 6 months. My symptoms did get better with medication. The Graves for me is long term but the thyroid symptoms are better. It is quite horrible to have but i never stopped work and feel stable now. I would get her referred to a consultant and definitely take the medication.

I'm in my 50s and have been diagnosed, unexpectedly, after blood tests for something else.

My GP ordered a 2nd blood test to check for antibodies to see if it is autoimmune. Most overactive thyroids are caused by graves disease.

I'm not feeling great with it a few weeks down the line and hoping the medication has a positive impact soon.

I had contrast-induced thyrotoxicosis which meant hyperthyroid results for about 6 months and I had to be on carbimazole. It usually only occurs in people with Graves but so far I haven't been tested as the endo said when my bloods went back to normal I couldn't be a patient.
While ill I was completely dog tired, starving then feeling sick, super anxious and twitchy and ragey. Please forgive her anything she says as it is how I imagine men on steroids feel and almost impossible to control mood swings. I think the staying away from kids is if you have the radioactive iodine treatment, which is unlikely at this stage, they will try meds first I suspect.

My daughter was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid and graces disease when she was 17. Before she was exhausted, eating far more than usual but losing weight, hair falling out and intolerance to heat. So watch out for symptoms like that. She also had this weird symptom that she could almost write on her skin by scratching.

she’s on carbimozole and it’s a case of trying to wean off it. Hopefully that works ok but if not it’s usually radioactive iodine treatment which is where you have to avoid contact with people for a few weeks.

if you have any questions I’ll do my best to answer because our daughters are quite young for an overactive thyroid
