Virus? Fever, cough not going away

My 9 year old finished school last Wednesday. The next day he had a fever, cough (sounds croup like) and generally unwell. We did Covid tests which were all negative.

I took him to the doctors on Wednesday and the nurse said probably viral and it has made his asthma worse.

We are now on day 9 of fever, paracetamol and ibuprofen every 4-5 hours, cough still there, taking inhalers every few hours.

Has anyone else's children had this and lasted this long? I'm concerned because of the heat (we are south coast so pretty warm) he is drinking, not really eating. He has ASD, and is also awaiting assessments for autoimmune conditions

Did you only test once for Covid?

We tested on the Saturday the first week and then again on the Tuesday, both came back negative.

No one else in the house has been poorly (there's 5 of us).

Thats good as I find many people testing only once and then thinking they’re good to go.

I had a dreadful ongoing cough pre-Covid (literally in bed for several weeks with fever, lethargy etc). I thought if I rested enough I’d get better but I just couldn’t shake it off. Finally went to the GP and he scolded me for not seeing him sooner. Put me straight onto antibiotics and I made a full recovery shortly after.

Go back to the doctors and demand they do something.

Yes, my child has had this for 2 weeks now. We saw the doctor before coming on holiday, who said it was just a virus. It didn’t get better, so we saw another doctor on holiday. He agreed that it was just a virus. Now it has got worse, and here they did a quick blood test which showed infection. So we now have antibiotics. Might be worth going back?

@Lovetotravel123

Thank you this is my concern. It's just not getting better. He has hardly moved from bed which is concerning.

I have recently been discharged from hospital after having severe pneumonia myself so have the concern it could be an infection.

I have just sent a message to my gp surgery so hoping they will get back to me today, if not I shall call 111 for advice.
