Have I messed up my thyroid blood test?

A couple of months ago I was put on 25g of Levothyroxine after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism. This morning I had a more detailed blood test done which showed abtg antibodies of 94. Everything else was normal. However, I have just found out that I should not have taken the Levothyroxine this morning! Do I need to redo the blood test?

Taking thyroxine won't affect antibodies but it will affect the T4 and T3 levels. I'd ask whoever ordered it if they wan't you to redo it

Hmmm I've got a blood test on Monday. I've neve been advised around thyroid medication and whether to take first. I'm on 50mg and Also have thyroid antibodies - yet I don't know what these mean.

I hope you got sorted out OK? I know someone close who's on 200mg a day 🤯

❤️

I’m on 200mg per day and have been told to take them as normal before a blood test.

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel if they haven't said just take it as normal and tell them that's what you've done when you have the test. Thyroxine has a really long half life so you'd have to be off it for days to see a shift in your levels really

Thank you.

OP just seen this was days ago, you may even have the results now hopefully 🤞

@TruthThatsHardAsSteel Thanks. I have to wait until the end of the month for my appointment with the endocrinologist so I am trying not to second guess what they are going to tell me!

Oh I'm glad your getting specialist help. Is that because of the hypothyroidism? I'm sure you're just wanting it done.

I am in Italy and here my GP always refers me to a specialist for just about anything. In fact, I can barely think of a single time where she has treated me.....

Advice is that you do not take that days thyroxine until after the blood test, which should be as early as possible ideally before 9 am

Snackpocket · 21/05/2024 09:26

I’ve been on thyroxine for years and never been told I can’t take it on my blood test days!

Ahhh I thought there was a distinct difference. That's great care. I'm jealous in the best way possible 😂. When's your appointment?

End of the month. Don't be too jealous as I have to pay for it! Appointments with the Italian NHS had a massive waiting list and I couldn't wait!

No I'm being silly. Don't worry.

I can understand not waiting. I've been on the NHS urgent rheumatology waiting list for 18 mths now. I paid to go private and had a really bad experience so I'm just stuck waiting again as 14 mths has passed since the useless private consult, that I'm actually still going to use the NHS one.

At least you don't have to wait long now. Hoping for good things for you 😻
