Blood test results help

Could someone help me understand my 14 year old daughter's blood test results?
She has alopecia and it's got a lot worse in the last month - now lost about 75% of her hair.

I'm wondering if it could be to do with her thyroid or adrenal glands but looking at her last blood test (July) I don't think she was tested for anything thyroid related.

I could call the drs but I suspect it'd take several weeks to get a phone appointment to discuss.

Can anyone help..?

It doesn't look like it to me, I think usually they test for TSH and sometimes T4 when they're testing thyroid related stuff.

The tests that are have come back abnormal all suggest high iron levels – is she taking any supplements?

You’re right, there’s no thyroid results on there. Your poor daughter. Agree, best to get a GP telephone appt, discuss getting other tests done then see face to face with results

I agree re iron. Is she taking an iron supplement or a multivitamin/mineral complex? If not, she may need to be tested for haemochromotosis. (V.rare, and she would have other symptoms too.) The high eosinophil count could be allergies/asthma.

Thanks everyone. She is on iron tablets so that probably explains the high iron levels. And interesting about the high eosinophil count too.

I'm going to push for more tests and if nothing comes of those maybe a referral to an endocrinologist. Thanks again.

@NahBruh how is your dd OP?

NahBruh · 11/03/2025 09:40

Hello @rainbow616 she's good thanks. She did go on to lose all her hair and most of her eyebrows by that Christmas, which obviously was very hard for her. She saw an endocrinologist who said from their perspective everything was ok - thyroid/glands ok. Luckily we got a free wig from Little Princess Trust, and also an NHS one. She also saw a private dermatologist, but the most helpful thing was seeing an NHS dermatologist who prescribed topical minoxidil(full strength) and fenofexadine (also protopic for her eyebrows). This has been working so far! She had a good 7-8 months without any hair but it's growing back now. It could all fall out again tomorrow, but we're keeping our fingers crossed it stays! Btw she stopped taking iron supplements quite a while ago.
