Coeliac bloods

Hi guys.

Does anyone know how long it takes for coeliac blood screening to come back? It’s been two weeks today for me now and nothing back.

im quite worried really as my other blood results were all over the place and if it’s not coeliac then I’m dreading to think what it could be. Other bloods included abnormal u&e’s, high infection markers, low iron. Physical symptoms include dramatic weight loss without trying, fatigue, stomach pains often, constipation, headaches.
I have also had hypothyroidism for 11 years.

I thought these bloods would be back by now for the coeliac screening but maybe it does take longer.

Routine blood tests are usually processed at the local hospital but it is my understanding that for coeliac a specialist laboratory is used and it can take longer. When my daughter was diagnosed several years ago it was quoted as "at least two weeks". Hopefully it won't be much longer for you now. All the best.

We waited 2-3 weeks for results, so you should hear soon. I did chase on my sons at around 2 weeks and they had just came back.

Thank you. That’s helpful.

When I spoke to my GP they just said ‘they take a little longer to come back’ but never stated a time frame.

I'm normally told 3 weeks, but for my last annual check up I was told to allow 6 weeks before the appointment, so it could be a while. As another poster mentioned above, the blood sample might go to a regional hospital rather than your local one (my sample is tested at a hosptial almost 60 miles from my local hospital)

Okay thank you.

I will sit tight and wait then. The waiting just feels a long time when other bloods are abnormal too and wondering what the hell could be wrong 😬

Well, I guess you could potentially try going GF for now and see how you feel. (Unless you think they might need more bloods)

I had some more bloods taken this morning. When I initially had the bloods done two weeks ago they suspected I had a chest infection so wanted to repeat them in two weeks to see if they improved after a course of antibiotics.

I have had iron deficiency anaemia on and off since my teens so that didn’t worry me. I think the main worry for me was my u&e’s being abnormal as I have never had that before. The doctor also said I was deficient in some vitamins but did not say what these were.
