So confused for the last year hair falling out, putting weight on, fatigue. Mood swings. Bloods not showing thyroid issue had bloods 7 times through out the year. Sudden swelling around neck picked up during an examination due to sore neck and ear. Referred to ENT. Had a camera Down nose. Nothing showing. 1 month later a scan on thyroid shows evidence of previous inflammation and now left patchy scarring on thyroid gland. Thyroid bloods still normal. Anyone had this before

How normal is normal? That often just means your results have come back within the reference range - they may not be optimal.

Do you have the results, with the reference ranges?

I have got a normal TSH level of 1.6 if I remember correctly but a T4 of 11.5 - which is slightly below range - doctor told me to retest in 6 weeks

I would recommend you look at the ThyroidUK forum on Health Unlocked.

Your scan suggests some form of thyroiditis, but your test results suggest secondary hypothyroidism, which is not a thyroid issue at all, but has its origins in the pituitary.

NB, despite the title of your post, the results you have posted do show a thyroid issue. The TSH being in range is neither here nor there when FT4 is below range.

You MUST have a complete thyroid blood panel/work up done under the endocrinology team
and nobody else, not even ENT.
We have a thyroid cancer gene throughout my family as well as Hashimoto’s. Bloods are always coming back normal UNTIL they’re done by a seasoned endocrinologist. Then we see the real issues.
You need a referral to endocrinology not ENT. I feel your plight. 💐

Good call. However, despite the protocol, endos in my area won't accept a referral if TSH is within range.

The good thing is that you have a scan result showing scarring of the thyroid. That in itself should be enough for a referral to endocrinology.
Push hard, OP. My mum’s scarring was the first inkling of her Hashimoto’s.
