My mouth is a mess today, swollen and tender. There are ulcers at the back and I wondered what people took when they had them?

Saltwater rinsing would be my place to start, I know it will sting at first Thanks

Cocolapew · 03/06/2021 17:18

That never even occurred to me Blush🙄
I know there's something that will cover them in a film but can't remember what its called, I'll check in Boots tomorrow.

Sorry to hear that you are in so much pain op. If you are able to get to a pharmacy then adult Bonjela should help.

Cocolapew · 03/06/2021 17:38

Thanks, I have Bonjela but I can't reach some of them. I should maybe just squirt it in and hope for the best!
I have to pick up a prescription tomorrow so I'll ask the pharmacist.

My dc has an auto immune disease and has multiple ulcers, consultant referred to a dental hospital and they prescribed steroid inhalers - tried few different ones (they're not licensed for spraying on ulcers so had to be prescribed through a consultant). None of the over the counter drugs helped. The biggest impact was actually from getting the auto immune disease under as much control as possible - it hasn't cured the ulcers but along with the inhalers has made it manageable.
Hope you get some relief.

Thank you.
I have been using an inhaler for breathlessness due to pleurisy and I wondered if it was that that's caused it. Though I've been in a flare for a few weeks now.
There's always something 🙁

@Cocolapew my dd has lupus, she usually suffer with them during a flare, she also does the saltwater rinsing, yy the stuff that leaves a film I can’t think of the name of it either sorry, hope you get some relief soon & start to improve💐

Cocolapew · 03/06/2021 18:08

Thanks@dontcallmelen I might have some of the stuff upstairs, I had got it for DD when she had an ulcer. I didn't know about it until the lady in Boots recommended it, DD thought it was good.
I've used the salt water and it's eased a bit Smile

Anbesol (Adult) gel

Alcohol-free Corsodyl rinse

Fluticasone spray (nasal spray but use orally)

Combined, these are the only ones that work for me and I once was administered colchicine in the belief that would help as it’s for stomach ulcers.

I have several auto immune conditions.

I also have lupus and am plagued by mouth ulcers when I flare. Rheumatologist told me last time that there are some 'pellets' you can buy over the counter that you put on the ulcers, but I can't for the life of me remember what they're called!

BlueSurfer · 08/06/2021 16:25

Iglu, Gel Clair, and hydrocortisone buccal tablets help me.

Duchess379 · 21/06/2021 17:50

I would rinse my mouth with dissolvable aspirin - it acts like an anti inflammatory. I had a massive flare up a few years back where I ended up with a mouth full of ulcers & tonsillitis at the same time. Dreadful couple of days!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

housemdwaswrong · 26/07/2021 11:27

Difflam mouth wash and throat spray for me, available over the counter. And if she should get nasal ulcers, naseptin on prescription.
