Hi,

I’ve taken a private blood test and thyroid levels are as below:

TSH 0.685 mlU/L (0.27-4.2)

Free T3 5.82 pmol/L (3.1-6.8)

Free Thyroxine 13.400 pmol/L (12-22)

Thyroglobulin Antibodies 18.400 KIU/L (

Antibodies can persist - I had an episode of thyroiditis some 20 years ago and have had my TFTs monitored roughly annually since. To my relief they have remained normal, I was initially advised that I was very likely to become hypothyroid eventually. During one of my pregnancies someone ticked the antibodies box and confirmed they are still present. If you are symptomatic discuss this with your GP and anyone else relevant, but perhaps there is something else going on. Some autoimmune conditions "cluster", so with a low ferritin I would ask - have you been tested for coeliac disease? There may be a few other things worth checking, not sure.

The raised antibodies might mean that you will develop an under functioning thyroid. As far as that is concerned I would discuss with your gp and possibly make a plan to repeat thyroid function down the line.
Apart from that ; if your ferritin is low you should work out why ( periods?) and take supplements as you can get symptoms of tiredness without an abnormally low iron level ie borderline can cause symptoms; Similarly with vitamin D. What does your GP say?

Thanks both. I’ve been feeling unwell since last Nov. Seen various GPs who have been quite dismissive on the whole. Bloods taken have always been deemed ‘normal’ - TSH only. My ferritin has been on the low side (though not according to the GP) I’ve been taking spatone liquid daily since the start of the year. My periods are heavy. I paid for a private transvaginal ultrasound at the end of last year which was all clear. They’ve always refused to test my vitamin D. These recent bloods are ones I had taken myself. My active B12 is normal. Blood test end of last year was negative for coeliac. I did cut out gluten earlier this year but I haven’t been 100% strict about it I admit.

I have had brief spells where my symptoms were improved and in hindsight being out in the sun does seem to help. I have supplemented with vitamin d very periodically at a low dose. They don’t seem to think thyroid ‘lumps’ are anything to do with my other symptoms.

I had a particularly bad time in May and at that point I was referred to neurology. I still haven’t had my appointment through and have been advised the waiting list is very long and 5 months minimum for first consultation. I assume this is to test for MS which I hope not to be the case but perhaps this is becoming increasingly likely. I think I’ve been clinging to the hope that the thyroid growths were finally the start of some kind of diagnosis and wondered if anyone had been symptomatic in similar circumstances.

I’m seeing thyroid specialist/surgeon next week so obviously will discuss further with them and take it from there. I will work to improve my vitamin d and ferritin levels as well.

Thank you again, I really appreciate the input.
