GP has told dd he thinks she has Crohn's disease.

She's confirmed coeliac. Is still poorly on a gluten free diet with bad stomach pains, weight loss and has blood in her poo for a few months now. Coeliac only got confirmed in Nov so we thought that was it.

She didn't have the blood in her poo back then. That's been since Xmas time.

So she's been referred urgently back to hospital. I'm guessing they will do a camera investigation? Does it sound like Crohn?

Could be. But could equally be something different.

My dd is under investigation for crohn's at the moment, and due a camera scope next week. she has stomach pains and nausea but also stingy eyes, but no toilet issues. I think the symptoms vary from person to person. She has had a stool test which showed high calprotien which indicates inflammation of the bowel, then she had a ultrasound which showed nothing, but the mri showed thickening of her bowel.blood tests are normal. It's a very worrying time and I feel for you, I hope you get it sorted soon and she feels better.

Well those symptoms do sound like they could possibly be inflammatory bowel disease either chrons or ulcerative colitis. I know it’s natural to worry and want to second guess things but you are going to have to hold on for the colonoscopy (that’s what it sounds like she will need). The Consultant will sort her out, and they have some brilliant new treatments for IBD these days. Hope it goes well and she starts to improve soon.

Thanks everyone. Dd had that high fecal calprotectin thing before Xmas. I asked her consultant then if she might have crohns, this was when she was just getting diagnosed with Coeliac. He said he didn't see anything to indicate Crohns and didn't want to do the colonoscopy. But the blood is a new symptom since then and the weight loss has intensified. Her bmi is 17 now.

Ronzi, I hooe your daughters scope goes well. I guess it won't be a very nice procedure but I've told dd it can't be any worse than the endoscopy she had to have and she managed with that ok.

There giving her a general anaesthetic to knock her out and doing both scopes at he same time. It's the drinks beforehand that are vile. it took me 2 hours to get her to drink the Mri glucose contrast drink them she threw it all up 2 min before the procedure. Here's hoping the laxative drink is a bit better, but I doubt it.

Ah dd had an mri before Xmas as part of the investigations, not sure if that was for coeliac investigation or if it was to check for Crohns? She had a cannula in and they gave her something through the drip, I don't remember her having to drink anything but I was at work that day (she's 17yo and was an inpatient then).

She had a weird reaction to the stuff they put through the drip which happens occasionally. Said she felt she was going to die and was in loads of pain! Trust her to be the 1 in 500,000 to have this reaction!

A GA sounds a good idea, how old is she?

My dd is only 11 so t's a lot to go through at that age. I think that's why there giving her the general.She also has to spend a night a hospital while they give her drink to clear her out. It seems like with stomach problems its a bit like a jigsaw puzzle, thru have to put all the pieces together before they can diagnose exactly what it is, that's why it takes so long. Hope you get some results soon and all the best.

My son has just been diagnosed with Crohns. It takes a long time to get diagnosed, he had multiple procedures and it was only when they did a biopsy (from a resection) did he then have the diagnosis. Took about 2 months in total, including 3 hospital stays.
He's never had blood in his stools but has suffered constipation, horrendous cramps and vomiting and lost around 12kg in weight. He has Crohns in his small intestines.

My girl had the colonoscopy and endoscopy.She had to get a nasal tube in because she couldn't drink the prep drinks, even then was still throwing them up. Luckily they did the trick though and they had a lood look inside. I was told there was nothing to report.Have to wait now for the biopsyand blood tests results, meanwhile she's still in pain crying at night with reflux attacks as well as sore stomachs the stingy eyes sore bones etc. It's been around five months since this started, and it's been quite an ordeal for her, and a huge worry for all of us.I wish there was an easier way to detect Crohns.

I have a couple of autoimmune diseases and last year and someone approached me to try AIP (Autoimmune Protocol). Since then I have put my diseaes into emission. All the inflammation in my body has vanished and I can walk again (I couldn't walk due to arthritis in my ankles).

Had similar situation, wasn't Crohns but Ulcerative Colitis diagnosed with colonoscopy. I hope all goes well for your DD and family.
