Background is dd is 16. We went to gp in February because she was very tired, pale and losing hair around her forehead. She had a load of blood tests. She had low b12 (138) and low ferritin (9). Also low vit d (48).
We didn't actually see the gp again but had all this from the receptionist and she had a loading dose of b12 injections and vitd capsules. No iron prescribed but I've been giving her spatone.
Her tiredness is much better and her bald spots have now got fluffy hair. This week though a new bald patch has appeared right in her parting approx 20p piece size and the hairline at the nape of her neck is 2 inches higher than it should be.
We went back yesterday and saw a locum gp who said on the original tests her thyroid was borderline. This wasn't mentioned by the receptionist or nurse.
He said the first number was in normal range but the second one was 0.5 out. Not sure which way.
He said to wait and see if it grows back after GCSEs and if not have thyroid retested.
I'm just concerned that there's something more serious going on. What could cause such dramatic hair loss? She's not that stressed about her GCSEs (whole other thread!)
To avoid drip feed I had Hodgkins lymphoma as a teen which was missed for months because it was put down as teen hormones / moodiness / eating disorder. Not that I think she's got that but that it's easy to miss things in teenagers.
