My dad has been diagnosed and it's very very stages. He was diagnosed about 2 years ago and he still hasn't started treatment. There are two kinds - the agressive one and the not agressive one. He is being monitored by his levels in his bloods and he is due up now to go for another biopsy. Best of luck with it op.

If you have any more questions ask away

Thank you so much for replying, how old is your dad, my partner is 70, and it all started with urine and prostate infection, then he got sepsis, discovered an enlarged prostate, had a prostate shave, then from biopsy cancer was suspected, had another series of tests, MRI scans, another perineum biopsy, and told definitely cancer, doesnt know anymore yet until the 5th of March
Did your dad have to have all these,or was it identified fairly quickly, this has gone on for almost 9 months now
I know there is watchful waiting which your dad must be having, but it sounds like it will be Chemo or Radiotherapy here,as the hospital he will have treatment at specialises in these
On a Cancer forum someone has suggested that it might not be the prostate because it was found through the perineum,
Lymph nodes have also been mentioned

Dad - 61 - was having trouble with his water works and it was found there during a blood test and that followed to a biopsy and then a MRI to see if it had spread. Thank God Dads is very minute. He had to go for a second biopsy and that is how it was finally diagnosed. Dads cancer at the moment is very early and yes being watched with the last two years. He is up to the consultant every 6 months with bloods done in the meantime. His levels are increasing with every test but not at an alarming rate tg. He is due now another biopsy in March. The consultant said that the biopsy is the best way of diagnosing and staging it. The Mri is to find ifvit spread to any other part.
I know there are other treatment the dr was saying - hormone seeds or something like that. Hope that puts a bit more light on things for you. 9 months is a long time to wait for all that diagnosis you poor things.

Just thought i would update you
If your dad hasnt had any treatment yet there is nothing different you can tell me probably, but thank you for your earlier reply

Hi, hope you are both coping OK.
Dh same age as your partner was diagnosed last year. He had 52 sessions of radiotherapy and hormone injections (ongoing). He too had a 68 mile round trip, and due to our family dynamics he had to drive himself and was fine. He is doing well and his last PSA was 0.2.
Try not to worry too much (easier said than done) Good luck. What was his Gleeson Score dh was 8 which is I understand to be high!

lovemylover · 11/03/2018 14:48

2old2beamum thank you for reply, only just seen it
He told me a no, which was between 6 and 10, im assuming that is what you mean, he doesnt listen properly, his is a 7, which he said isnt too bad
I think he will drive himself, i dont drive and his son is working so doubt he will be able to take him
He hasnt got the letter yet from the hospital, as far as i know, [we dont live together]i expect it will tell him if he can drive or not etc
He will let me know all the details when i see him
He seems ok about it all, but he has a very positive outlook on everything
He had bowel cancer 10 years ago, and it had got to stage 4,he is very lucky it was caught and treated, and been ok since
Do you know how long it takes for the HT to take effect, ?
Think thats bothering him more than anything at the moment lol

Sorry just found your reply. HT kicked in quite quickly, side effects loss of body hair, but not beard??
Libido completely gone but at my age similar to him not too bothered as we have 5 with SN still living at home 12-37 so we are knackered!
Good luck to you both!

lovemylover · 21/03/2018 21:36

Thank you for your reply, you mean you have 5 livibg at home aged 12 to 37, not sure what SN means, sorry
Well he has only been on HT 2 weeks, and 1 injection, not sure what that is for unless more HT, but nothing different yet
Libido stil;l there,up to now
We are fairly new as a couple so understandable why hes worried about that, but of corse health comes first
Good to know your DH is ok,
