UK to Aus family visa question!

Hi, I have a question regarding immigration to Australia from the UK.
My sister who was born in the UK is now residing in new Zealand - has a partner & children born there and is now a citizen herself.
Could me and my family move to Australia on a family visa?
I keep seeing conflicting advice online regarding this. I know that I'm not classed as being in her "family unit" but I am classed as a relation so wondered if the family visa would apply? She would be able to sponsor us also.
Thanks for any help. This is all very new to me and I appreciate any advice.

Regardless of whether or not you are entitled to a family visa for NZ, being entitled to live in NZ does not give you automatic rights to live in Aus. You would need to become a NZ citizen first which takes time. Looking at the NZ immigration website (the one above is the Australian site which is not applicable to your question) would suggest that no, you would not be entitled to a family visa based on your sister. Your best bet would be to contact a migration agent, especially if you actually want to get into Australia rather than NZ. Even with DH on the skilled occupations list our visa for Australia took two years so if it is something you are seriously considering I would do it sooner rather than later.

No. They're two totally separate countries. You won't have any 'rights' via your sister for a family (or other) visa for Australia.
