Hello! My partner has been offered a job in Aus and so we are considering relocating. We’re thinking of Perth as that’s where a lot of his work is and he wouldn’t have to ‘fly in-fly out’. Can anyone recommend neighbourhoods/areas to look at please. We’ll be renting at first. We’ll be moving over with our young daughter.

Also, what is the current rental market like? I’ve heard it’s crazy.

thank you

The current market is bananas, both to rent and buy.

Neighbourhood recommendations will depend a lot on your budget, plus if you need to be near anywhere (airport, CBD, other work locations) and what kind of lifestyle you’re looking at (beach, bush, restaurants & cafes) and do you have kids/are schools a consideration.

Basically, you will rent wherever you can get and be thankful for it.

Do you know where his work will be? That can help narrow it down. No one would want to recommend Iluka if he is working in Henderson, for example.

Is the rental situation really that bad??

his work is near Bellevue. I was looking at Ocean Reef but I’m not sure if it is a bit out of the way?

DBro and his family lived in City Beach. It seemed to be a buzzing, family friendly neighbourhood. I suspect that this came at a considerable price though.

We’re building about 20k new homes per year but 100k people coming into the state. It’s simple maths.

Ocean Reef to Bellevue is doable though my dh wouldn’t like to. It’s a fairly straightforward drive. Ocean Reef is nice.

Yes. The rental vacancy rate is 0.5% — pretty much as low as it’s ever been. Working people are becoming homeless because there are just not enough homes to go round. Landlords are charging what they like and people have to pay it if they want to keep a roof over their heads.
