Turning your craft to cash?

Does anyone actually make a profit selling their handmade items? What do you sell and where do sell it?

I'm a SAHM of 3 and thought that selling some sort of crafts would be a good way to make a little extra cash. I'm quite creative but have yet to find my exact talent .

I do

Started at craft fairs but they are so irregular, moving on to farmers markets now and focusiing on just the bigger craaft fairs. My advice would be select your 'craft' carefully (go for something different if you can) and do some research on pricing etc (go to a few fairs). Also build up a stock of sale goods before you try and do a fair.

I also sell locally to friends and family and via other contacts such as school and nursery. print up some leaflets and have them with you all the time. I crochet and knit so take it with me whenever I'm out and about, people always ask about it and I have a leaflet handy. I've taken lots of commissions that way.

For me it s hobby business in that I have amain, full tiem job also but I do know people who have made it their full time career and make reasonable money. You do have to put the hours in though.

hth and good luck
