It's my Mums birthday in just under a week and i'm wanting to make stuff for her as I can't really afford to pay for stuff.

So far, i've decided to make a bookmark with a picture of her grandchildren on but dont know where to start! Also, i need to make her something else. She doesnt really have any hobbies but does do gardening, she likes chocolates and thats about it so any ideas are welcome.

Thanks you

Hmm, depends what 'crafts' you're into. A simple one would be to get some card (nice shop bought or make your own with the kids), cut it to the shape and size of a book mark and stick pics of the kids on it. Make a hole at the bottom and thread some string/nice wool etc through, tie off and finish with a bead or button.

Crochet/knitted book marks look lovely too. Just knit/crochet a thin strip then add a tassle at the bottom as for the card one.

Other ideas: lavender/pot pouri bags (cut some fabric scraps into cirles, hem round the edge, put pot pouri in the middle, gather the fabric round and tie with a bit of ribbon.

Bit early to think of anything else but I'm sure others will be along shortly

Make Nigella's Chocolate fudge. easiest thing in the world and yummy! Keep it in the freezer and eat straight from there.

Pheebe - thanks for your ideas. I want to make something she will use so i've just thought about maybe a wallet for her sat nav as its just kept in the side pocket in her car at the moment and it could get damaged. I saw some sandwich wrap bags on a website that i liked but i dont think she would use it.

bumperlicious - i think i'll be making the fudge for myself

Any other ideas anyone?

oo, matching phone and sat-nav covers

can you knit/crochet - loose lacy scarf

hankies, embroider corner (old fashioned but my mum loves em!!)

bedtime sleep pillow with lavender

papier mache ring bowl (kids could help/do that one)

gardening apron (big pocket in front)
