old but pretty ceramic tiles ... what can I do with them?

Hello there. Never posted on this topic before but hoped someone here would be of a more creative nature than me!

Had kitchen renovated recently which involved ripping out the original fireplace surround (I know.. we needed the space )

I now have a lot of pale cream ceramic tiles, dating from about 1915, measuring about 3cm by 10cm, some have curves where they went round the fireplace opening. Others have a very pretty pink rose design.

I am really loathe to just send them to the tip but am not sure what I could do with them. Any ideas? Or do you think anyone like a salvage place would pay even a nominal amount for them? Am just getting garden sorted so anything outdoors would be really good.

Thanks!

Where are you?I collect old tiles but am in the SE

am in SW London. Do you collect a big number together, or just one or two of each type? (if the latter will happily send you a couple.)

Anything!Mostly a few random ones and I usually use them somewhere in the house as I LOVE them.I once mosaiced the risers on outdoor steps from old tiles and it looked great and really lasted!

ok, let me get the rest of them cleaned up and see what I've got in terms of numbers of ones with the pattern (which I'd think you would want) and will let you know.

if you really wanted them all I'm sure we could arrange a pick-up / drop off. otherwise like I say I can send you a couple in the post.

will return to this later today or tomorrow.

if there are other ideas for what to do with them that would be great - I'd quite like to keep a couple as they are part of the original house. but I would love someone to have them who would like them rather than just dumping them.

Mirrors framed in tiles look lovely and would be great reminder of the houses history

Freecycle is great for finding homes for things.

I have a couple on bookshelves, in amongst the books. But facing forwards not sideways, obviously.

make a trivet or a cheese board out of them.
Get a square or rectangle of wood stick tiles on wood and then grout between tiles grout. Edge the whole thing with thin pieces of wood for a professional finish.
