Come and tell me about your sewing machine/serger

I'm finally going to replace my very aged and very abused sewing machine, and I was just wondering if anyone had anything particularly good or bad to say about theirs?

I don't really want a machine with a fancy embroidery computer, I do a fair amount of garment making (for family only, not in industrial quantities ), a bit of quilting (so need a reasonably amount of space under the arm), and that's about it.

I'm also contemplating a serger/overlocker for doing more t-shirts etc, but really not sure what the difference is between a £200 one and a £900 one.

get the best janome you can aford. i have a very nice one off ebay for a very good price. its in very good condition and came with lots of extra bits.

i have an overlocker again a nice one from ebay but i do not use it that much as its such a chore putting the sewing machine away and getting it it. with dedicated space i would use it much more.

John Lewis's own label sewing machines are made by Janome

I didn't know that, thanks. I'll have to compare prices.

Butterfly the main reason I am getting a new machine is because my old (cheap) machine just cannot keep tension any more, despite a service and lots of TLC. It has also developed a tendency to eat thin fabrics

Any more opinions much appreciated!
