Can anyone recommend a hand/footprint kit please?

There are so many online and the casting ones seem almost as expensive as the professional ones they do at john lewis. Has anyone tried one? Are they worth it or should I just go with the cheapy ink print ones? (Its for a 6 week old baby)

I printed DDs hands and feet at about 6 weeks using a cheapy ebay one, only a couple of pounds. It uses a toxic free wipe that reacts with the paper provided (same as finger printing technology in the US I believe). It took quite a feww attempts to get a hand and foot print but I just scanned the best into the computer and printed whatever we wanted. I also bought a pink colored one which was nowhere near as good. Baby 2 due in a few weeks and I will definitely do the same again. HTH.

We tried one of the cheaper shop packs and it was messy and didnt work.
So we used air dry clay for hand and foot prints when our son was small.
Took abit of water playing with the clay to make it soft frist but it worked great (it was best for foot print)They made great cheap christmas presents for the family. The clay was not as detailed as the Johnlewis one but it has its own home made charm and you can still see all the little wrinkles.

Thanks byanymeans...I am not an arty crafy person so sorry for being really stupid, but where would I get air dry clay? (I don't think I'd know what to look for!

Sorry have not been online for the past few days..... You can buy air dry clay for hobbie craft or a good craft shop. Its normaly best to just ask if they sell it. It normaly comes in a foil packet about 14cm x 8cm x 4cm and White looks best. You dont need much and when you get it out the packet play with abit in your hand to make it softer then roll it out to no more the 1cm thick lay it on a plat or tray. Then put little persons hand on the clay and very gentaly push there hand or foot and leave it to dry for a day or two till dry.

Thanks for that byanymeans. We tried unsuccesfully to do prints and imprints, it was quite funny apart from all the screaming! We gave up in the end and went to the professionals. I guess I just have to accept that I'm incapable when it comes to that sort of thing.

Hi - we managed to do our little one's foot prints using a cheapy paint and canvas kit but I was horrified that his feet were then blue for a couple of days as couldn't get the paint off! So - wouldn't recommend those. We did buy a clay kit but we pressed on as hard as we wished to and barely made a mark on the clay so gave up! In the end we got a clay cast done of our son's hands and feet (shows every line in his skin) along with some professional photos which are now in a fab box frame on our living room wall. Cost about £250 but was well worth it. I think it's a national franchise that does them photographyforlittlepeople.

Baby Prints

Babiface do a wonderful bay hand and footprint service. The tiles are made of ceramic, you can go to their head office in Sutton, Surrey and have the imprints taken by them or contact them for a home-kit to take the impressions yourself. and the fantastic thing is you get the original impressions back so if the tile get broken you can have it remade!
